Staysure Insurance

Just for anyone who is insured with this company who hasn't yet received a letter!!

My travel insurance is via this company, and I received a letter from them yesterday to say that their computer had been hacked into in mid October. They said that all their customers should check their bank statements from this time as some information had been compromised - such as security numbers on the back of debit/credit cards and other details - although from the letter I'm not sure if they know exactly which ones! They are also offering free access to Experian for 6 months.

As so many things are done on computer it is frightening to think that there are still systems out there which are not virtually hacker-proof - or else aren't set up to give an immediate warning that someone is trying to hack into their system

That is inexcusable Sandra! These days all stored credit cards should have the highest possible encryption on any company system (although not all have it encrypted as securely as they should!). I would be more concerned about debit card details though, as unauthorised payments from credit cards are at least protected and automatically refunded but it's still very inconvenient and worrying.

I hope all is well - It's not the time of year to have this on your mind - There's enough to think about!!!
