Wheelchairs Alicante airport

Does anyone know if you can just borrow a wheelchair in the departures area of the airport? i.e. are there just a stack of them like there are trolleys or do you need to pre-book one?

I recall that you can just turn up at the assistance kiosk (opposite the security gates at Departures) and obtain one with or without an assistant, but its been a while . . .

Many thanks both for your replies. I can push it, it's just my husband is ill and can't walk as far as the gates. Cheers

Hi, I travel frequently with my parents who require assistance and I can tell you that you need to reserve assistance. No doubt you can turn up and request it, but if theyrebusy then you’ll have to wait some time and fill in forms etc.
You can request assistance through your airline online, or my preferred way isto call the airport hotline for assistance which is 902 404 704. They speak English and will reserve your assistance no problem. Of course, it is better to request it through your airline if you require assistance at the other end too, because they can request assistance inborh airports. The above number is just for the Spanish end.
Good luck

I am unable to walk very far so when we book flights I also book wheelchair assistance, no charge I use a walker there is no charge for this on the plane & I don't have to tell them I am taking it. With regard to wheelchair I have never had a problem, everyone is so helpful I don't even have to get out of it when they check you. I can't manage stairs so I get taken right to the door of the plane. When we arrive in the UK we have to wait for everyone to get off then those of us who have problems then get assistance, it doesn't cost us a cent & I would highly recommend it.

I always thought you had to provide evidence from your doctor to prove you required assistance

I have never had to provide any evidence although it's obvious I have problems walking.

We've had special assistance before when travelling long haul as neither of us can walk very far so I know how that works. But this time I just want to borrow a wheelchair as my husband is ill and unsteady on his feet. We're going home early so that he can get treated in the UK. I can push it and we can take our time going down to the B gates it's just too far for him to walk. As long as I can get one from the Assistance desk then that is ideal.
