Best place to buy an orange and a lemon tree?

Does anyone know the best place to buy an orange and a lemon tree and the price please?

You can buy Fruit trees at any garden centre. The price will be depend on the size of the trees. Get a gardening book to see how to look after them. Water and feed while they are small.

As JanJan says above, any garden centre. We bought ours quite small, planted it straight in the soil, and it has thrived on neglect.

It hardly ever gets watered (just a little water in the heat of the mid-Summer but not every day), never gets fed and I personally don't believe in garden pesticides so I just throw a bowl of water with washing up liquid over it every now and again. I have had bumper crops of lemons after the first two years of planting, so many that I give bags of them to the neighbours.

They do need a bit of pruning and thinning out every few months as they grow very quickly but that's all we do. Most plants in Spain are able to withstand long droughts and Lemon Trees are one of those. I think over watering can do more harm than good - Some people even use a hose pipe to water every evening in Summer, which doesn't help and it's apparently illegal.

I,ve been told that some species of the orange,s are not nice to eat?if its illegal to water a tree,why do urbinisations get away with grass watering?

Cost depends greatly on how big and mature the tree is. You can buy small, twig types for as little as 9 euro and nurture it yourself. Established medium ones can go for around 50 or 60 euro or up to a couple of hundred for a well established one already fruiting and all prices in between. Really varies.
All the garden centres around Quesada have them in various stages of development.

I can't remember exactly how much but I bought a small one from a garden centre a few years ago and it was very reasonable - I would say you may get one for not much more than 10 to 15 euros or obviously more if you want bigger (but they do grow quickly in Spain).

Most of the citrus trees sold at the garden centre are the edible variety. Obviously a strain of Seville oranges will be very bitter as they are specifically cultivated to make marmalade.
And it's not illegal to water plants and so on in Spain unless a very rare drought is declared. Franco may have been a very nasty chap but he did instigate a huge dam and reservoir building programme which spreads water over Spain.
It is illegal to water cars on the street but that has more to do with detergents and stuff getting into the water supply.
I think the last time drought conditions were declared was around 10 years ago. Notifications will appear in the press if this happens.

Oh it must be cars I heard about. I thought it was hose pipes in general. Thanks for clarifying. I wondered why the Spanish residents near us were always hosing down their patio and drive when I thought it wasn't allowed. Good to know.
