Hi Laura,

Have you managed to get the pest control to sort out your caterpillar problem yet?

Jan.

Hi Jan,

We got insecticide from a garden centre and managed to spray the nest yesterday because it has been a bit wet and windy in Quesada this week. Saying that, we have not seen any caterpillars since last Monday. We will keep an eye on it.

Dot, we moved house in December.

We lived in Altea Hills and our garden was surrounded with pinos trees all 950 sq metres, we never once had a nest of these caterpillars this was because over there the council treated all the trees, now down here they do not treat so they're in abundance, best thing to have in the house or when you walk your dog is an injection of steroids. if your dog is affected you give one injection into their rump it helps quickly and gives you the time to take to the vets. Also been told if it is in their mouth to flush their mouth out with fast water. You can buy the steroids from the pharmacy amount given depends on the size of the dog, our dog is 65kg we had three lots, the pharmacy will tell you how much to inject they are called Urbason polvo y disolvente para solucion inyectable, (English Predisalone injection) in other words you have one phial of liquid which you add to a phial of powder which you give a good shake to mix and then push the needle into the phial and draw the liquid out, then inject into your dogs rump, you can inject a second time but must be at least 30 mins after the first one, cost of this just over 2€ not a bad price to save your pets. Hope this helps as even the hairs can come off the caterpillars and blow in the wind. horrible pests!!

We noticed pine trees with the warning sign just up on the left hand side from Budapest restaurant, strange thing was there is a children's play area in the same vicinity,as they are so dangerous to pets and humans , WHY would the local authority not just remove the hazard?.

We have these caterpillars on the 2nd roundabout at Avinada Antonia. Everyone local walks their dogs we've rung the council although they said it would be dealt with it hasn't. How do we stand legally if we handle it ourselves?

Be very carful just disturbing the nest could KILL you I don't want to sound dramatic but they really can be fatal just breathing in floating hairs from them, when the nests are turning black this is when they have been shedding to deal with them you should wear protective gear. it is not really advisable to go near them. last year a woman and her dog both died an they didn't even tamper with the nest!!!

Crikey Scoobydoo that's awful!
I let the dogs into the concrete garden this morning and I'm off to take them to Guadamer beach. How come the Spanish authorities don't seem to take them seriously?
