Don't panic....yet! Buy some ORO and spray it all around the door entrances and criss-cross across the rooms (while everyone is outside to let the fumes die down).
No matter what we do, everyone will get one or two now and again.
If you see one you can stun it with the ORO too, it will slow down eventually and you then use a catcher to get it outside.
We also use the cockroach/Ant powder under kitchen units and freezer etc. and with mosquito netting on all windows and doors, we very rarely see one inside.

We are also on Lo Marabu - Residential Amaro just up from the salt lake.
We have been here 8 weeks now and also had cockroaches.
We initially spent loads on traps, powder, sprays etc. and it was really getting us down but we seem to have sorted it now.
The best way is to find out where they are getting into the house then prevent them from getting in.
So we shut all the doors at night and put towels on the floor against them to stop the cockroaches flitting from one room to another.
We also put bleach down the sinks and put the plugs in and blocked the overflows.
Also we ensured the floors were kept spotless and all food including fruit was put away at night.
I also fitted some draught excluder to the bottom of the front door to minimise the gap between the door and the floor.
After doing this we were still getting cockroaches.
We found that the cockroaches were confined to the downstairs bedroom.
We had a total of 12 one night in the room - on the floor, the walls, everywhere. Really quite frightening.
I checked the entire room for gaps in the brickwork/walls etc. and found the only possible entry point to be via the back of the air-conditioning unit - there were gaps all around the back of it especially at the top.
I firstly closed the vents then sealed all around the back of the unit with draught excluder from the local Chinese market on Lo Marabu and it has solved the problem - we have been cockroach free for over 2 weeks now.
Also i've sealed off an external wall vent to the bedroom with some mosquito screen material just to ensure they can't get in via the vent.
I've had to re-paint the walls in the bedroom as they left a lot of brown marks on them which wouldn't wash off, but I'm now happy and relieved.
You could get a pest controller in but this will only be a temporary measure - they will be back.
If you stop these roaches getting into your house by sealing all entry points then you'll be sorted (and it won't cost you a fortune!)
Good Luck Carol78 - Martin

All good advice above. We don't have air-conditioning but our neighbours have and they said the same thing about cockroaches must be coming in the gaps behind the units, because they had sealed all other entry points. They did the same as you Martin and also spray ORO around the units regularly as well.
I'm paranoid about blocking any gaps, keeping plugs in sinks and baths, corks in overflows and putting mesh over vents to stop insects getting in. Even when our Internet guy drilled a hole for the cable from the outside aerial, even before he was out the door I was filling the hole around the cable with filler - Those horrid insects won't get the better of me!

Hi Carol78
I don't think you have an infestation - just opportunistic visitors. There is some excellent advice from forum members about prevention.
Over the years we have found the odd dead one under the sofa or bed and I could not understand how they were getting in given the measures taken. It dawned on me one day when I saw this monster hovering in the area of the air con unit (sited over the bed - major freak out) . I had some air con guys come and fill the installation holes on the outside but they did not do what I requested which was to take off the cover on the inside and plug any holes. They assured me it was not necessary. Five days later I woke to the cat running around chasing something and then staring intently under the bed. Surely not ......yep great big black one strolled out. I haven't slept well since!!!!!
A few days ago I asked Steve Birkett (highly recommended on this site) to take off the cover of my air con unit and fill any holes so I could see with my own eyes that roaches can't come in. He uncovered massive holes in the masonry and filled them so hopefully they will not come in again, but they don't need a very big gap. However my earlier trauma has left me reluctant to put it to the test in the early hours when the roaches are most active. I'm working up to it Lol. This particular unit is above the light switch so presumably there is a hollow channel in the wall which took them right up to the unit.
The first guys that came out said that some people put foam down the socket hollows to prevent roaches coming thru that way. I suggest you use filler on any gaps around light switches (I had ants coming in that way) and fill any gaps generally. I had a cockroach coming into the bathroom and realised there was a gap between the floor and wall tiles. Once that was filled we have not had a recurrence.
Steve also recommended buying the plug in 'Pest Reject' which I did. These are not cheap and not sure how effective they are as I have read mixed reviews about them, but worth a try.
I also put barriers at the bottom of doors and on door where once I saw a cockroach enter beneath I use masking tape.
I used the red can of roach killer on the intruder and I was left gasping for breath whilst the blighter was running around seemingly unaffected! I will try the Oro as recommended by others. My neighbour suggested using hair spray as apparently it sticks them up and they cannot run off. I have bought a large can but as yet thankfully have not had to test this theory.
Hope you get to the bottom of your intrusion.
I did take some comfort from reading the posts related to this topic as I thought I was alone with this problem and the dread it causes. So thank you everyone for your contributions.

Cockroaches come and go all the time. Just deal with them when they do as long as you've taken some precautions. Ants are another pest. All sizes. Just find out where they are getting in and put powder down. You get used to all these things after a few years. The little black flies are far worse as the bites itch like mad and you can hardly see them. Ask in Johnsons for Oxidised water. ( I think that's what it is) Only about a euro. Takes away the itch.
You might also have noticed that the wasps like water unlike British ones that go for food.
