I was interested to read where to buy fruit trees can I ask how easy is it to grow fruit trees in Spain especially if after planting we are only over every mth would they survive ?? . Also can anyone give us advice on what colourful climbing plants we can buy and from where ,that won't need allot of watering as I would like to attempt to grow some around the walls of our garden eventually.

Cheers Barbara

Fruit trees are easy to grow. We have a lemon tree in our Spanish garden and only get over to Spain 3 months a year. We never water it unless we are there and it always has an abundance of Lemons- We bought it from a garden centre and it was only about 18" high and by one year later it was fruiting. It does need a good pruning once a year though as they grow so fast. As for colourful plants I would not get a Bougainvillea again although it's a fabulous looking plant, they are so high maintenance and can get out of hand that there are not many people who plant them and keep them.
I'm sure others will advise on some nice colourful easy maintenance plants for you to grow.
It is exciting growing things in Spain as everything grows so quickly and easily and there are many plants that can grow in drought conditions which are good to plant in Spain, especially for a holiday home.

Hi
I wonder if anyone can answer my question please.
We moved into our house 7 months ago and although I love the garden I'm not very good at it. I was very excited to discover a lemon tree and an orange tree, but we haven't had any fruit off of either.
My neighbour told me that although the lemon tree is quite big she doesn't know if the previous owner had lemons off it. What she did say was that it was a cutting from hers, I wondered if this is why it's not bearing fruit?

Re Orange and Lemon trees. If you've had no Blossom on them at all I would prune them and give them a Feed. You can buy special feed which I would mix in a Bucket and tip the whole lot on once a week.
Suggest getting a Gardening in Spain Book or look in free papers for Gardening sections where you can usually ask questions.

Hols all gardeners..Regarding lemon trees, for years I would be at our place in Spain only once .Our lemon tree absolutely thrived on neglect. Our near neibours would be envious as they hadn't anything like the amount of fruit..So the sporadic rain deluge's must be the secret..
