Welcome to TalkQuesada Irish rover 61. Hope you enjoy the forum.
Most people will have their own way of keeping Cockroaches away. We don't live here permanently so have not had much of a problem with them, but the spray 'Oro' from the supermarket is supposed to be good.
No matter what any of us do, the odd one will sometimes either crawl in or fly in. Therefore Oro, sprayed around doors and windows, is supposed to put a barrier across thresholds etc and for the 'flying in' problem, I think mosquito netting helps on windows and grill doors (helps stop mosquito's too of course LOL ) If you haven't already got netting it can be done professionally or do it yourself cheaply.
Also sticking a piece of mossie netting on top of all ventilation points, like in the bathroom & kitchen can help and also plugging the overflows in sinks and bidets with a cork, gives some reassurance they can't crawl in there too. We also have food & hair-traps over all plug-holes and the cockroaches can't get through them either.
As you can tell, I am a bit paranoid about insects and believe in prevention being better than cure but if it's just a quick fix you need I think Oro spray should do the trick.
Hope this helps.

"ORO" is the best bet.
Spray around the perimeter of each room, and also make an "X" by spraying corner-to-corner. Spray around all door and window openings, and also on sun-terraces and balconies (including the "X" corner-to-corner business).
Some people say that if you crush a female roach (don't know how you tell), the eggs she is carrying can still grow on to adults, worsening the problem.
Cockroaches need water, so check and change pet-water bowls regularly, and also prevent dank places outside by not storing gardening stuff against house walls
We use the above, and only get one or two visits from the pests per year

hiya,
We bought a powder from the supermarket which we put under the kitchen sink, (they like dark damp places apparently) around door entrances etc as the others have advised. Be careful though to place powder away from pets. Within a few days they were gone, found a a couple of dead ones. Sorry cannot remember the name of the powder but the hardware shop in Quesada or supermarkets sell with pics on.
hope this helps.

Hello Cathie,
It could be similar to the powder we bought in Johnson's supermarket.
We wanted something to put down under our kitchen cupboards (like the ant-powder we get in the UK) to kill ants at the same time as we were putting in a new washing machine and had all the kick-boards out. When we bought the ant-powder it said on it that it kills cockroaches and other insects too - We have sprayed ORO around but now we use the powder along every exit door line and around all internal and external vents (even though we have netting over them) for when we leave the house shut up and go back to the UK. It seems to have stopped the ants and, except for outside, we haven't come across any cockroaches inside the house. This year though, apparently, may have been a bad year for them (well not a bad year for them but a bad year for us! )
I recently had an interesting email about Cockroaches from the owner of Dona Pepa online website, copied below:
Dear Neighbours of Doña Pepa and Lo Marabú;
As you know, cockroaches have always been a problem in our area at summertime. Many neighbours have commented to me that this year they have noticed more cockroaches than usual, and that they do not understand why the town hall does nothing about it when we have the same issue year after year.
One of the neighbours mentioned in an email that they have also complained to the town hall but as yet seen no change.
This morning I lodged a written notice at Rojales Town Hall (copy attached in http://www.donapepaonline.com) saying that we continue to have problems with cockroaches and need to do something about it as it affects the well-being of the community, its residents, businesses and tourists. I asked them in writing to keep me informed, also in writing, as to whether they have actually done anything yet and, if not, if they have the intention of doing anything in view of the fact that we still have left possibly two months of heat and humidity- the ideal climate for cockroaches.
For further information, please visit http://www.donapepaonline.com
Yours
Francisco Lidón
Jan.

Whilst there isn't a problem by us (the council sprays the drains twice a year and our administrators get the drains treated on a regular basis) we use a normal cockroach spray along the skirting, under the kitchen units and points of entry (doors, air ducts, aircon ducts etc) every 3 months. So far (touch wood) we have only had one this year and that was pretty much dead anyway. Any of the supermarkets and Chinese stores sell it and each appears pretty effective. Also appears to keep the ants at bay as well.

You have to put netting on all windows and door grills and any airvents that they might get in, at night if your sitting outside dont leave the doors and yes spray, we use one from mercadona its in a red tin and says use once a year I use it every time I, m out and this year we've only had 1, there is a section here on the forum about cockroaches and the name of the spray.
