Spraying garden to reduce mosquitoes

Spraying garden to reduce mosquitoes

Postby BarneyBoy » Sat Jan 28, 2017 11:31 am

Hi all. We have recently moved into a villa with a cypress hedge which the mosquitoes seem to love. Can anyone advise re spraying the garden to reduce mosquitoes. When should we spray and what is the best spray to use? Thanks

Always best to use this as its non toxic. Too many people use toxic insecticides and weed killers unnecessarily IMO, which are often a sledge hammer remedy and do more harm than good!

On a slight tangent . . . the cheap washing up liquid is also best for adding a dash of when washing windows, strangely it doesn't tend to smear like the "good stuff" . . .

Mosquitoes breed where there is standing water. There doesn't have to be much. In Zambia the Gov used to inspect properties and remove potential breedind sites, or spray them. This included cutting down maize plants, as water would collect betwen the leaf an stalk. But old tires, tin can etc were main problems. Look around your property and see if there are areas where they couls breed and get rid of the.

Yes bird baths or the worst culprits can be the waterbottles people put under airconitioning drain pipes if you use them they need to be emptied.
