Gas fires produce a lot of condensation

a dehumidifier or two if a large house plus ventilation, its only for a short period, we have central heating and use dehumidifier on cheap price eelectricity.

Loads of ways to make your home more conformable and cosy in the winter all depends on size (small house/large villa) and of course budget. There's central heating, underfloor heating, walls insulated, log burners, pellet burners, fitted carpets, laminate flooring rather than tiles. My parents have a log fire, keeps the downstairs lovely and warm but don't do much for upstairs and the beds always feel damp but I think they are just very cold. A nice modern tall electric heated towel rail in the bathrooms is good too. I think aircon, that's what we have and then you can use it to keep cool in summer.

Morning all :-),

Yes as previously mentioned if you are using a bottled gas fire this will be the source of 90% of your condensation issues I suspect.

Take care TTFN

We have a log burner and keeps us very warm ,we put either a gas heater or electric on in the morning and evening up stairs for a hour or so ...not cold and no dampness just a little condensation on the patio doors.

We had a huge condensation problem in the under build as there was no through ventilation and this caused high humidity and lots of mold.

We purchased a Sensibo device from Amazon. This turns the aircon on to dehumidify mode when the humidity goes above our preset. It then turns it off when it gets below 50%.

If you are there all the time just switch aircon to dry mode manually, but for us leaving the property empty for long spells the Sensibo unit worked well. You need wifi and there is no installation, it just mimics your hand controller via an app, so you can see in real time the humidity level in the property.

Not sure if this helps, we had a forced ventilation system installed in our UK home, suffered terrible with condensation, mold etc. We previously used dehumidifiers and had air bricks fitted. Nothing worked until we contacted a company called Envoirvent. They installed a system which forces the air in the house out through any gaps, constantly refreshing the air. There may be a similar type of company in Spain. It's worked wonders for us.

Damp and condensation is almost always a ventilation problem. It seems crazy to open a window a bit but that will get rid of the damp. You don't need to open it all the way, nor for all day, but just for a bit. We all sweat about a litre of water per night. If there are two of you, just imagine throwing two litres of water over the walls and ceiling every morning...You must ventilate..

Electric blankets are a must. They keep you warm and stop the bed from feeling damp.

Good luck..

Hi I decided before moving here to install oil fired CH, log burner, so pleased we did as I just couldn’t live here without CH. we have no condensation.
Our underbuild is surrounded by air brick, which keeps the floors cold in winter but cool in summer. Very Thick large rugs are a must in winter, which we tend to roll up and store during spring to winter.
