Do you live on El Raso ? - advice wanted

I disagree... there is nothing wrong with a community..we have lived on one for 8 years and had no problems... we have a communal pool paid through the community, any problems with overgrown gardens are dealt with by the community, any legal stuff is dealt with by the community, any discussions with the town hall are dealt with by the community, any troublesome neighbours are dealt with by the community... If you are a Spanish speaker, have your own pool, your own gardens and are sure of your own strength of character to deal with problems in Spanish then do your own thing, but a community is what it says... a community.
But we will all favour where we live and it really does depend on what you want from your House. El Raso is fine, but has been said by others, if you want a real Spanish experience you will have to drive. If you live near a Spanish village you will have more choices... for instance, Rojales centre has over 30 bars to choose from.. (hic)

Look for El Raso, Guardamar on Google Maps. The lower end where the new builds are is technically San Bruno, although the builders are using the El Raso name.

We have friends who live on El Raso - I think it's a very well kept urb with a nice selection of different building styles, and wide, well maintained roads with loads of parking. There's a small commercial area at the entrance to the urb, but whether you need a car or not is down to personal preference. Before we lived in Spain, we could walk into Camberley in 20 minutes to go to the cinema or for a bite to eat, but we always jumped in the car to do our weekly shop at Sainsbury's. Living in Spain now, we can walk to local bars and restaurants, but we still take the car to do our weekly shop. Also, El Raso is only a 5 minute drive from Guardamar, a fabulous coastal, large Spanish town with loads of amenities and services.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to my post about El Raso and 'community living'.
It's been very useful and informative so far and will help us when we come to move and look for a place.
All the best - Paul

"You do not have any control over your own property if you are CONTROLLED BY A COMMUNITY"
I strongly disagree with this statement.
We have had a property in a section of an urbanisation for many years and we have been able to put our own stamp on it.
We have added a shed, Conservatory, outdoor bar, a swimming pool and masonry balustrades to our place. All of which was legally done and without any negativity from within our "Community".
Ok, over the years there have been the odd Jobs Worth that managed to get elected as President, but they come and go.
Overall we are quite happy be part of a community. There is normally a kind of family feel to it and neighbours tend to keep an eye for you when you're not there. The community charge can aggravate some people but the lovely communal pool and drain cleaning etc. etc. is much appreciated. At the end of the day, it is everyone's personal choice. Take your time and pick your spot. El Raso is a lovely place IMHO.

So, in the end we didn't move to El Raso but bought a house near Rojales/Quesada. We felt that Quesada was more central. We moved from UK and rented in Quesada for 4 months whilst we explored all around and during that time we realised Quesada was a better option for us.

Would anyone know which is the best agent to contact about rental properties in the El Raso area. We visited the area recently and it seemed a good place to live. Not far from Quesada and with it's own facilities. Looking for a 12 months rental.
