We have been on the VPSC tariff for for many years now and its always worked out cheaper than a fixed price one. This was confirmed at the end of the bill, showing you comparisons on fixed against your costs.

With the new billing structure on this tariff now just in the 3rd month, I am still convinced that its cheaper. As said, prices are fixed daily the day before and billing is by the hour.
With sensible use of electricity over the cheaper times, the KwH rste is around 10 cents.
Cheap rste is all weekend from Friday midnight to Monday 8 am and weeekdays from midnight to 8am.
There are only 2 x 4 hour expensive rates and the remainder are mid price.
Expensive is around 20 cents KWH, mid price 15 cents KWH.

Iberdrola offer this tariff via Curengeria which they own.

As an ex UK energy advisor and designer, I am appalled at the billing of this tariff as its impossible to actually work out actual unit costs.
Units are shown on each time band, then costed with numerous prices,however it does not cover the unit cost published.
This is just lumped as one big sum and added in the final bill.
Having spoken to Curenergia about this, they happily have me a breakdown of the unit costs for that bill.

You can change tariffs any time as its not a fixed price yearly contract.

Over the years I have changed many communities to this tariff as street lighting was the main cost, hence getting the cheap rate.

There is an app called IDE which links in to your smart meter, this gives amazing info daily as to units used and which band charged at, it also monitors your potencia,so you can check if you need to up or lower. You can get instant live readings from your meter as to consumption at that time that minute. You can also download a months load of hourly consumption. Lots more as well.

With the fairly consistant weather in Spain, unit costs are fairly stable on this tariff as a lot is wind generated.

Many thanks Milor. Sorry for delay in thanking you. We were on teh way back to UK yesterday to packour house to make the move to Spain! This is incredibly useful informationm and really appreciate it. Just one clarification if I may. The rate is fixed the previous day as you say. Does this mean that there are still different set rates for different times of the day and not one fixed rate for the whole day? Also other than the App you mention how are the rates notified to the customer? Is it by email or via a App. Sorry and finally our new build has no power to it yet i.e. the meter is not installed. Do you know how we can contract for the VPSC rate? Do I just ask the builder to make the arrangements or do I have to do it after a meter is installed?

To clarify a few points.

As always in Spain its all very confusing to understand.

The price of electricity is published at 8.15 pm for the following day. The graph gives a max and minimum price for each time band but the energy costs can change hourly.

This is why they never advertise a unit cost on any website for this tariff as its a rolling variable rate charged to you by your consumption in that hour.
You can't be notified of the rate at at all as that would be 24 notifications a day.

Its very much swings and roundabouts this tariff and prior to smart meters they just took an average cost over the day.

Usually your solicitor sorts out electric supply as you need to show documentation etc. They seem to charge for this.
