Moving query

Moving query

Postby Chance » Fri Jul 13, 2018 9:21 am

Hello all,

We are after some advice as we plan to put our UK house on the market in the UK fairly soon and we was wondering how you guys deal / dealt with moving over to Spain and buying your property after you have sold your house in the UK.

Of course when we sell in the UK we would be homeless! So we was wondering if you guys have rented an apartment in Spain while you were looking to buy your house or had any similar ideas to this, if so what!

Any information on this would be awesome as we dont have any contacts in Spain yet.

Thank you for your help.

Everyone is different and it may work out fine but from what I have heard and seen personally, if you can possibly downsize in the UK and keep a small property there (even if you rent it out) you will be better in the long run.
By selling up completely in UK and buying in Spain you are putting all your eggs in one basket. None of us knows what the future holds for us..life changes, health changes and there could easily come a time when you need to go back to UK. You may not think that now but there are many Expats who wish they had been able to keep a bolt hole in the UK and if you can do that it may be the best decision you ever made or alternatively it could be a good investment.
Properties in UK are always an investment over the years and properties in Spain are not. The property ladder in UK is always worth staying on.
The other thing is why not put off selling your UK home for now and rent in Spain for a few months (particularly through the hot summer and the Winter, these are the seasons that can surprise people when full time living. (Too hot or too cold is often mentioned, even though we all know Spain has hot Summers, many Expats say it's too much and go back to UK for the hottest weeks if they get the chance). That way you will know if it really suits you first before selling up.

Sorry if it's not what you want to hear but it's best to think of these things now instead of when it's too late.

We sold our house in UK and had the removal people put all our things in storage. We then rented a house here while we looked for one to buy.

I would spend the time researching the area on tínternet...you should be able to cancel out some areas and earmark others.. despite what agents tell you property is not flying off the shelves so you could register your interest in some properties with several agents...their help, or non-help will give you clues to which agents to use.

..also use this forum for any questions, it can be a God send and save you time and money..

Good luck with the journey....

We also sold our house before we came out to Spain and put our household goods into storage. We organised a rental property for 3 months so we could have good look around this area. We drove down because we had a lot of personal items and our dog to bring down. We had to extend the rental for another month before we could move into our villa. We have never wanted to go back to the UK to live part time but we have been back to visit relatives. We would also feel very uncomfortable if we did not have air-con for the summer and central heating for the winter.

Cheflady, when you say that your not eating or sleeping, and neither is the dog, I do hope your referring to a four legged canine, and not insulting your hubby, even us guys have feelings

Agreed...apart from the property " not flying off the shelves"... I work for an estate agent, established 20 years and business/sales are up 50% on last year.

hi
we are moving over in Nov and everything is coming with us. most removal companies charge £100 per cubic metre.Howells are door to door service and offer two months free storage.white goods seem more expensive in spain so all ours are coming with us. do your homework first and pick the best for you. hope this helps Phil
