Paying off mortgage a few years early

Paying off mortgage a few years early

Postby Val49 » Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:15 pm

Hi,
I've just joined the forum and introduced myself in the intro section.
I wanted to over pay my mortgage by more than my 10% allowed to reduce my 5year remaining mortgage down to about two years, but sabadel have said no, so now am looking at paying off the final amount in one payment. Would this be allowed and I know there might be a final charge as well?
I'm not resident at the moment and am in UK whilst Covid is active. I have rang my branch quite a few times but no-one picks up but get a request to try again in a few minutes.
Does anyone know if there are differences in having a mortgage or not in Spain regards rights.
Thanks for reading Val

Hi Val,
I'm with Sabadell, I'm a resident so dont know if that makes a difference. I paid off the last 5 years of my mortgage in a lump sum last year and was only charged a small amount for early repayment and nothing else.
As you're a non resident I'm sure you'll be subject to other charges which may be hefty.
Hopeful someone else will shed light on this for you.

Thanks madcat,
That's useful to know, I've emailed the bank so will see what they say.

Check your statements they will - or at least should- mention early repayment charges.

If you were in a long term fixed rate deal then they will be tiered depending on length of term. If not it should possibly be around 1%-3% of final balance.

5 years ago it cost us 1% of outstanding balance to pay ours off and that was with sabadell.
