benji wrote:Marcliff I noticed you mentioned tins but when I asked at the Town Hall some time ago about recycing tins as i had 3 bags full of them they said that you can't recycle tins, has that rule changed now please? It does seem crazy with the amount of tins that must be used over here.
Thank you

I don’t think so, I have also queried where cans are put for recycling only to be told, like you, they are not recycled. It seems such a waste putting all those aluminium cans into general waste.

The yellow bins clearly state plastic and cans.
Aluminium is the most valuable recycled material.
N.B. Some of the yellow bins also have a red pocket on the end of them for batteries. I have seen many folk that don't understand Spanish putting cans in that part!
No... Cans should go in to the plastics bin with the plastics.
There was a special awareness campaign by the town hall 4 or 5 weeks ago during the Thursday market.

There's a recycling bin especially for cans and tins on the corner of Avda de Huelva and Calle San Sebastian in Dona Pepa.
I can't believe it's the only one around but it's the one I use.

I have double (& triple checked) and ALL yellow bins are for both CANS & plastic.
Unlike the UK where you have to separate them, the yellow bins are for both & all have pictures of cans and cartons on them and the first word written on the bin is LATA which is Spanish for metal can.
Some have a small side pocket for PILAS - Spanish for batteries.
Meanwhile all shops that sell batteries have to have a bin inside them for recycling them.

Yes, correct. The one up the road is for cans and plastic. Just a picture of a can on it but the writing latas, plastico.
I think the plastic bottle picture had faded and they have now renewed it. Yellow bin with grey top.
