Water Leak

Water Leak

Postby ScottCummings » Tue May 17, 2022 12:46 pm

Hi, we have a holiday apartment in Quesada. In September and again in December there were two water leaks on the communal grounds which caused our water meter to run continuously which resulted in two water bills totalling of 1475 Euros. The leaks were well outside of our apartment and the community arranged and paid for the repairs to the pipework which affected other properties as well as ours. In our apartment we turn off the water whenever we are not there so the issue was not in our apartment, but with a pipe between the water meter and the apartment building.Obviously our house insurance wont cover anything outside of our property.I have managed to claim back approx 700 Euros from Hidraqua which leaves about 700 which I am trying to claim back from the community. So far they have refused to refund any of the costs.Do you think I have a case to claim from the community or do I just suck it up? Anyone else had issues like that. Thanks, Scott

Without knowing what the community insurance covers I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to answer.
However, next time you go away, turn the water off at the meter rather than in the house.
There should be two off taps, one just before it gets to the meter and one at your house. The one you turn off at the house doesn't stop the water from the meter to the house but the one at the meter does.

I know, I know, locking the stable door and all that, but just a tip for later.

Thanks for replies. Yes I now know to turn off at the meter (once I found I had one and where it was hidden on the community!) and always keep an eye on the meter when we are there. I have asked the community about insurance who were vague, but said it was not covered.

Think JPEG is right. Can you post recorded delivery in Spain? If so,do. They cannot claim never to have received your claim this way.

Yes, it's called a Burofax in Spain through Correos.
