Changing doctor after moving to a different catchment area
Changing doctor after moving to a different catchment area
by Diane daya vieja » Sat Sep 09, 2023 12:09 pm
We have moved from Daya Vieja to Formentera del Segura.
We were in the Almoradi/Orihuela catchment area and now come under Torrevieja.
We are permanent residents.
If I go to the Centro salud to sign on how does the process work?
What happens to our medical records? We have lived in Spain since 2006.
Advice much appreciated

I’m fairly sure your medical records are on the health system’s centralised data base. All state health facilities will have access to your records simply by entering your SIP Card number.

Surely it makes sense to move if there is somewhere closer and this was the question. I would suggest you go to the nearest salud and simply ask. If you don't speak enough Spanish then either take someone who does or write it down using google translate. You may even find the speak some English particularly if you try first in Spanish.

Vega Baja is nearer for us.
My husband has been having regular rheumatologist appointments since 2006 and is very settled with his treatment so if we can stay under the Orihuela area we don’t mind the 5 minute drive to Daya Vieja.
I think it is fear of the unknown as we have heard some horror stories where patients treatment has been interrupted when moving areas.
We are happy to stay as we are if it’s permissible.

There are other significant issues involved including having to obtain new TIE's, obviously Padrons and updating Driving Licences. I'm told that you can't stay with existing Medical Centre and actual Doctor. I suggest you visit Ayuntamiento for your new address.

Thanks VMW. We have done change of addresses on car, padron etc.
TIE still waiting for an appointment. I have been told the government are going to clamp down on individuals who book loads of appointments to then charge people to do their TIE for them.
I can’t find anything in writing that says you must change to a local doctor
