Covid Booster Jab No 4
Covid Booster Jab No 4
by dragonlyn » Sat Jun 04, 2022 3:03 pm
Popped to Dona Pepa Med Centre yesterday to ask when our next booster jab will be done as we are now six months since our last one. My husband is 67 and I am 66 only to be told there will be none........The lady shrugged her shoulders................
My husband had a brain hem some years ago and five years ago a very dangerous superbug nearly killed him so he is particularly at risk. Hearing of more cases where we live in Rojales can anyone advise whether they have received their jabs in our age group? A friend in our age group who has sadly had cancer had his booster a month ago in Torrevieja................We are rather puzzled! Thank you.

No, posted before, Spain are not giving out the 2nd booster vaccine for several reasons.
The WHO says it is not necessary and the Carlos III institute agrees with them. They also point out the huge number of people in Spain who have had the first booster and they say that is sufficient.
They also point to what they call vaccine ennui, which is people getting cheesed off at being called constantly for vaccines and also point out that a new vaccine is being developed to counter newer variants. They say fatigue will kick in if people get called for a second booster and then get called again for the newer vaccine.
However, they state the only ones to receive the second booster will be the elderly (I think the over 75 age group but don't quote me on that), those with compromised immunosuppression, those who have had transplants plus Down's syndrome patients over the age of 40.
I do recall reading that those on cancer treatment or those recovering from cancer will also be offered the second booster.
The rest will have to wait until the new vaccine comes along which could be Autumn and will be the Hipra vaccine and all over 65 will receive it initially.

Thank you Marcliff, most appreciated!
I think my husband has a compromised immune system so I think he will go and have a word with the doctor.
We have lost ten friends to Covid with my sister and two friends with terrible long Covid, so you will understand why we are concerned.
Take care!

Looking into it, they are not going to call any group purely by age.
Those eligible for the 2nd booster vaccine are set out below:
ADDITIONAL DOSAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
In accordance with the current recommendations of the SNS Public Health Commission, a booster dose will be administered, always with an mRNA vaccine (Moderna-Spikevax® or Pfizer-Comirnaty®) to people with the following very high-risk conditions (Group 7 and people receiving treatment with immunosuppressive drugs) , in hospital preventive medicine services:
Hematopoietic stem cell transplant or CAR-T recipients, vaccinated within two years after transplant/treatment, on immunosuppressive treatment, or who have GVHD regardless of time since HSCT.
Solid organ transplant recipients.
Renal replacement therapy (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis).
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment in the previous 6 months for any indication.
Primary immunodeficiencies.
HIV infection with 200 cells/ml (analysis of the last 6 months).
Cystic fibrosis.
Down syndrome with 40 years of age or older (born in 1981 or before).
Immunosuppressive treatment.

Thanks Marcliff for the info. So does that mean travelling with an out of date booster is now ok?

There's no such thing as an "out of date booster". The 270 days limit is from the time of your second vaccine (1st if Janssen) but there is no time limit after the booster vaccine. If you've had the booster then you're covered.

Spain has now approved the 2nd booster vaccine for the over 80s and those in residential homes along with the groups previously reported.
The health authorities say there is no clear evidence that vaccine protection is decreasing in the 60 to 79 age group and advise against the second booster for that age group at the moment. This group will probably be the first to be called in the Autumn.
In the Valencia Region, 93.5% of the over 70s have received one booster.
The haven't yet announced the dates when they will start on the over 80s.

The Spanish Minister of Health took the regions by surprise when she announced that the second booster will be made available to everyone regardless of age. This after announcing just last week that only those over the age of 80 would receive it.
It is likely that the new vaccine will be administered alongside the flu vaccine in the Autumn.
