Doctor's appointment-can anyone else help?

Doctor's appointment-can anyone else help?

Postby TonTri » Tue Nov 06, 2018 2:41 pm

Hi there

My husband has had a bad cough and keeps losing his voice for about 6 weeks and also has a pain in his side for about the last 3 weeks. He's been inhaling and taking expectorant but it's not got any better.

We popped into the Farmacia in Lo Maribu today and they said he should see a doctor to see if he needs antibiotics. We have our EHIC cards but how do we go about making an appointment? Do I just ring up for one? Should I take along a translation on my phone of the problem or will they understand? I was thinking of going to the Health Centre in Dona Pepa as it is probably easier to park than the one in Rojales although we are roughly half way between the two, is that ok or do we have to go to a specific one?

Anyone got any advice, please?

Yes, just go the one in Dona Pepa (Lo Maribu)... the reception speak some English so there should be no problem... they will give you a written appointment...(you will probably see a doctor a lot quicker here than in the UK...)

if you are in doubt take a translator to the appointment. I think they have cards of translators on the reception desk

Good luck...

I think a translator is an essential requirement in this situation. You need to get the whole point across. Even the odd wrong word can lead to a mis-diagnosis.

I've read on other posts that the receptionists speak English at Lo Maribu clinic. I will see when we go to make the appointment, we might need one for the actual appointment with the doctor though.

just go and see Dr Ballester near the arches he,s private and you will have to pay ,if you need any medication he will give you a prescription ,and any advice you may need ,his nurse speaks perfect English, usually sees you the same day or the same hour you go in to make the appointment.

I'll second going to see Dr Ballaster. We have lived here 14 years and I can tell you that iy mivht cost a bit but you will get there quicker without a translator to pay for. He is an excellent Dr

Well we've just been to the Health Centre in Lo Marabu to make an appointment for my husband and they have told us we need to go to Rojales Town Hall and register on the padron before we can have an appointment.

Having been told on here in another post that if we sign on the padron we are breaking the law and can get fined €10,000 each where in heaven's name do we go from here? I am now at my wit's end, I don't want to pay to go private unless it is absolutely the only way, we just want to see a doctor - HELP!!

We're non resident but here until the end of March. Surely we can just go to a health centre, it's not an emergency but the pharmacist said he should see a doctor.
