I've heard that cutting down on salt, sugar, nicotine and caffeine can help. Also drinking boiled water but I think a lot depends on working out what has triggered the condition in you personally. Maybe loud music, or swimming. Such things can cause a build up of ear-wax so syringing may help. Hope you get it sorted. Stu.

Defintely go to a doctor as you may just need an ear syringe but the doctor will be able to see if its just a simple problem like that. Blocked ears can make you miserable, I had it so bad once I was in tears and now always use drops to break up the wax as soon as I feel a slight blockage. If it is Tinnitis you need a diagnosis as it can be permanent.

Blocked ears (wax or water), loud noise levels causing damage to drums, blood pressure, muscle contraction or inflammation, allergic reactions, adrenalin or other natural hormonal releases.... these are just a few of the basic possible causes of tinnitus, and will vary from person to person. Most common is reaction to food and drink stuffs. I have had all my life and varies in intensity daily. Seek medical advice.

If you have only had it for a few days, then it may be many of the causes suggested earlier, including a virus. If it persists, then you should certainly seek medical advice but to be honest there is often little that can be done. The use of "white noise" can help to mask the noise you are hearing, thereby offering you some relief, especially at night when trying to sleep, but this needs to be tailored to suit you.

I have hissing in my ears I noticed it after having a bad head cold, went to see an ENT specialist in Alicante after getting stressed with the constant noise especially in the night. He prescribed me to use Audiovit an herbal medication 1 to be taken before bedtime, I've found it to be a god send to help me sleep through the night You can buy it from the pharmacy but must say it's quite expensive 30 tablets approx €20.
