Newbie to Private Health Insurance

Newbie to Private Health Insurance

Postby TonTri » Sat Jan 02, 2021 9:27 pm

Hi there

I've taken out private health insurance with Salus as part of my application for residencia but I have a few questions.

Do I need to register with a practice? I'm planning on using Medcare in Benijofar.

I am on repeat medication, can a private practice issue me Spanish repeat prescription forms to save me using my UK ones?

In the UK I was classified as a vulnerable category as I have COPD and high blood pressure and had to have yearly tests, lung function, blood tests, diabetes and a review of my medication. The surgery also used to call me to have an annual flu vaccination. Will a private practice do the same in Spain?

Will I need to register for the Covid-19 vaccination?

Sorry for all the questions but it's all new to me and I know some of you out there already have private health insurance so might be able to help me.

We are with Salus & use Dr Ballister through the arches on the right in Quesada..Just out of curiousity did you put that you suffer with COPD when you applied ? as normally pre exisiting conditions are not covered The policy can be null & void if you have not declared any conditions ....I would check as to if you are covered..Yes the dr can give a prescription for which you pay unless you have an S1

Thanks Cornishbug. Yes I declared all my medical conditions and respiratory pathology, as they put it, is excluded. Still doesn't stop me needing the flu jab and medication for it. I realise I will have to pay, it's just whether the practice keeps it all on my records.

Also recommend Dr Ballester in Quesada. My husband was with him (with Sanitas) they always called with reminders when necessary.

Thank you SharonSpain. My husband was treated by Dr Ballester a couple of years ago so I will give him a go. The only drawback in m mind is the parking but I'll have to live with that.
