Oncholigist

I dont want other people to go through what we have been through the last few weeks so this is really just for information. My husband had major surgery to remove a tumour in February. We saw the oncholohist once a few weeks after and she said she was waiting for the pathology report. Naturally we were apprehensive.Just to add she had no bedside manner and was very abrupt. My husband teceived a text to say she was phoning on a certain dayto chat to him. We waited for the call in anticipation. No call. Same thing happened twice more, no call then he got a text for an appointment at the hospital. Again anticipation only to be informed on the machibe there was no appointment. Went to desk and were told it was a phone appointment again, even thoigh clearly said hospital, but as we were already there we could wait to see her. The time for the phone appointment came ,and went - no call. There wete three people in front of us, and the onchologist was running two hours late. We were at the end of our tether so went home. We thougjt maybe our GP would have the results so went to see her and told her about the missed phone calls from the onchologist. She said the appoitments wete 'advisory' only and she would only call us if she had the results in, but they wete not in. I said well it would have been courtesy if someone had told us about this, and saved us weeks of anxiety. We got the usual Spanish shrug and we are still waiting. I do hope this has helped anyone in a similar situation. Remember if you are awaiting results of something and have an appointment, if the results are not in the phone call or hospital appoitment are null and void, and I am not shrugging..

A neighbour has been waiting over a year!! The wife's officially complained and still nothing, this poor man has had MRIs, biopsy etc, has tumours in about 6 places and nothing think they are just waiting for him to die. It's been a complete shambles.

We have every sympathy for you and we hope it all turns out well in the end.
You have failed to mention if you were treated by the Spanish national health service or private.
We are pleased to say that currently and over the past 20 years we have received nothing but perfect treatment
both in a friendly attitude and treatment from the Spanish health service both here and on the Costa de Sol.
But we have heard of some horrendous tales regarding the private sector.
We wish your husband better.

Not private, Spanish health system used to be amazing, and have to say my hubby did get excellent treatment when inpatient, but they seem to fall down at after care. Thank you for your good wishes

We use NHS and Private IMED and Quiron, if we wait too long with NHS (Torrevieja). We then go Private, just joined health plan at Quiron 300€ per year per person, but so prompt with the tests and if you have Op ( 10% discount ) Peace of mind/ when worrying. We are so lucky to have all this care on our doorstep!

Best to call in to Quiron, they have usually two young ladies in attendance speaking multi languages to the right of cafeteria, where you can help yourselves to free coffee/tea and snacks! Best to ask the ladies if the health plan would suit your needs?
