There are those who want to prescribe statins to everybody over 50yo.
This is big pharma at it´s evil worst.

Yea, been reading up on statins and there are too many side effects associated.
They are seen by many docs as a bit of a panacea but o think the jury's still out on their effectiveness especially when taken in conjunction with all the other medication we get prescribed when in our dotage

I pay for my prescriptions and am on long term medication on a monthly repeat prescription. Last prescription cost me an eye watering £50.40 and I almost had to beg for a larger supply for my extended stay in Spain.

That's a prescription pre pay 'passport'. It does r Duce the cost of prescriptions but, does not extend the period that drugs are prescribed for

Might be worth trying to find out how much your medication actually costs at full price here. It came as a surprise to me how cheap some of mine actually are. I think I asked at the chemist's and, depending on the medication, they would supply prescription drugs from a copy of a UK doctor's prescription.

I will certainly enquire in Spain. Unfortunately it's a bit complicated in the Uk in that the prescription was given by NHS England but because of my location I was in Scotland when I went to the Pharmacy. Therefore it isn't possible to use an exemption or pre paid card for NHS Scotland. I know the sensible thing to do would be to register with a GP in Scotland but with an imminent move on the cards was trying to prevent yet another GP transfer. Gosh, no wonder I get confused!!

A relation of mine, due to a miscalculation, had insufficient meds to get through their stay with me.
I went to the pharmacy with the boxes, beta blockers, steroids, immune suppressants and stomach protectors. Bought a supply of everything and I was shocked at how cheap they were, I don´t think the whole lot came to the equivalent of one item on a UK prescription.

And just to add another point to the mix for Tootandploot...you would get all your prescriptions free in Scotland with a Scottish GP prescription..... And can do yr repeats online... So if you have a Scottish address it would be worth thinking about registering with the local gp... But of course you'd still need to bring enough meds with you for when you are in spain...or try as linkwater suggests....

Some things in Spain you can buy without a ´script... some you can´t..and it depends on the chemist.. for instance, I can´t buy antibiotics anywhere in Rojales, but I can in Benijofar..

I have two inhalers... together they cost about 102€.. but to me they cost about 8€ a month..and I think I could get that money back, but can´t be bothered..
