Can you tell me who are the directors of NICE who are on the board of the drug companies please as there are none on this list
https://www.nice.org.uk/about/who-we-are/board#TOP
I was referring to the American drugs board,(whatever that is called.)I picked that up a while ago so I don't know if it still holds true, I am willing to be corrected.

Hi guys can I please add my pennyworth, I have been on simavasin tablets for high cholesterol for about the last 10 years and also on rampril for HBP I was advised by a friend of mine about taking them his words were throw them in the garbage. I decided my GP new best and have taken them since. Now I have thrown the lot into the garbage bin as I went for a scan over here and when I told the person doing the scan what I was taken said the same as my friend, the scan showed up various problems to what I was told was mainly to do with the statins. I am now going to he clinic in the morning for the results to see what is going on in my body.
Will keep you informed of the outcome. Pete.

I have just found an article on Google which states that before any drug is passed for human use it must go before a government review board made up of scientists, board members and workers of the manufacturing company of the drug in question. Unfortunately I am not clever enough to insert it in this post.
So it seems we are both right and I stand uncorrected.

I would respectfully advise against taking the advice of 'friends' or 'some people' and taking yourself off statins (or pretty much any drugs prescribed for life-threatening conditions) without having a serious discussion with your GP.
And while i am in advice mode myself, I'd just point-out that it has been well established that the effect of many HBP and 'heart drugs' can be adversely affected by taking grapefruit juice ... if you do drink GJ, please check that out.
(Shame becoz I like grapefruit and have a Pomelo bush in my garden )

I am on 3 high blood pressure drugs a day and I wouldn't dream of stopping them, my specialist told me I will be on them for life and I accept that but statins are a different kettle of fish. Statins affect the livers ability to produce LDL cholesterol, the so called "Bad" cholesterol but recent research has said that there is no such thing as bad cholesterol, so time for a complete rethink on the whole subject.

This is big pharma at it´s evil worst.
Ab-So-Lutely, they are the biggest con perpetrated on the general public since I don't know when, I have been following this subject for some time now and I have noticed they keep shifting the goal posts (downwards) to pull more and more people into the net of hooking them for life. They now want to prescribe them to children. These drug companies invest a lot of money in developing these drugs and they give the doctors huge incentives(free meals, free holidays etc.) to push their products. The doctors will probably deny it but it's true.
If you think about it , why would the body produce something that is harmful to itself , cholesterol is a very necessary ingredient to the bodies wellbeing, it builds cell walls and is important in many other processes in the body, My doctor put me on them and I couldn't tolerate them, terrible muscle pains, I stopped taking them and the pain went. The thing is that the people on the governing body that decide the levels at which people should start taking them are directors of the drug manufacturing companies, (No conflict of interest there then).
They MAY be of some use to a person that has suffered a heart attack but not before. Every time I am given a new drug I go straight home and check it on the Internet. "Google" PHARMACOPEIA and look up what you have been prescribed . It has been known for doctors to misdiagnose so it's up to the individual to monitor their own wellbeing. It has now been admitted that it is inflammation that cause the problems, not HDL or LDL cholesterol.
I am sure this is a subject that will run and run because there is so much misinformation out there and people get very heated on the subject, so let the battle begin.

My wife and I, both over 65, have recently stopped taking statins. My wife, especcialy thought that the side effects were not worth the few extra years she might live
I have stopped too as I am more and more dubious of the benefits.
A healthy diet and some exercise will probably give just as long a life span in the end
