SIP card and prescriptions

SIP card and prescriptions

Postby shepgrove » Mon Nov 25, 2019 12:46 pm

Hi everyone, can anyone explain payment for prescriptions? We have our Residencia and sip cards and currently pay 10% prescription charges, which is fine. This year we have paid tax on our income in Spain. Our neighbours, who have been here many years, have told us that once you come under Spain tax system then prescription charges should be free. Can anyone confirm this and if so what action is needed? Thanks in advance.

Hard to begrudge 10% especially when you think that in UK it's now £9 per item, I can recall when it was 20p!

I presume your statement "paid tax on our income in Spain" means worldwide income and not just in Spain.

You pay 10% if you declare an annual income of over €18,000 but there is a maximum limit, for 2019, of 8.23 euros per month. So the most you will pay, no matter how much your prescriptions cost, is €8.23.
This is for the Valencia region and you may find it differs in other regions.

It's only £9 in England. All other parts of the UK are free.
And over 60 is free in England as well.
