SIP Card
SIP Card
by Ritchtee » Tue Jan 28, 2020 8:27 am
Hi all
I currently work and am on full contract etc.
I have my SIP card etc, but my husband only has a temporary SIP card.
Is he entitled to get medical cover etc until he gets work as we’re married?
There’s a bit of confusion as some people say yes, and some no!
Has anyone got clarification as the Internet is also unclear

Just to clarify. You have a SIP card. You then say your husband only has a SIP card?
Did you mean to say he only has a EHIC? If he has a SIP card he gets medical cover.
Assuming you meant EHIC, if you are working and on a contract and paying social security contributions then he is covered as a beneficiary. In Spain, the household is covered if one is working.

Go to the lady at the town hall in Rojales (sorry, don't know what days she is there now) and explain,
A couple of points, though:
If you are living and working in Spain, you will generally pay income tax and social security that goes towards providing you with free state healthcare.
Who does public health insurance cover in Spain?
Employees: all employees and self-employed workers in Spain must make social security contributions. This then entitles them to Spanish health cover. I believe that applies to you.
Self-employed, freelancers and business owners: self-employed, workers are responsible for paying your own social security contributions towards public healthcare. You can apply for a social security number at your nearest Social Security Office.
Spouses and children: the spouse and any children of workers are also entitled to state healthcare, as long as they also reside in Spain. I believe that applies to your husband.
