"Temporary" SIP CARDS
"Temporary" SIP CARDS
by Snowman 1 » Sun Jun 05, 2022 9:27 am
We moved here in May 2021, finally got our SIP Cards through in December, and got registered with a superb Doctor in Lo Marubu, 3 months ago, started to remind our Solicitors that our Residencia was due to expire, and sent numerous e-mails, left messages, even turned up at the offices, to be advised that there was a waiting list for appointments, surprise surprise, and not to worry, they also gave the same advise about my UK Driving Licence, (Another Story), we have now changed Solicitors
Went to the Pharmacy last week, handed the SIP over, was informed it was no longer Valid !
(a). Is it linked to our "Expired" Residencia ?
(b). How can we tell if the SIP is a 6 x month one, rather than a Annual / Permanent one ?
(c). How do we get an Annual / Permanent one ?, S1's were submitted and approved, thought that was the end of it ?
Any advice most welcome

Think the temporary SIP card is a flimsy laminated piece of card whilst a full SIP card is a more rigid plastic credit card type. You say your ‘residency has, or is about to expire’. Can’t understand how you had a temporary card if you are resident?

I’m a little confused by your post for a number of reasons, so need further clarification.
You moved in May 2021, presumably on a NLV. If you can explain what happened next.
Did you obtain your TIE card by going to The foreigners office twice, firstly for fingerprints, secondly to obtain your card. Do you need to declare your income again for years 2 and 3. Is that what you mean by an expired residency?
Presumably you moved over with private healthcare but then once your S1 form came through it was registered with INSS and you’re allocated a GP with a permanent SIP card. So you’ve had private and national healthcare running until your 12 month private healthcare expired.
Your SIP card actually holds lots of information and will no longer be valid say for instance you haven’t renewed your padron, so an “expired” residency would probably flag up as well. But in that case you shouldn’t have been able to see your GP.
So until you sort out your residency problem, you won’t be entitled to Spanish Healthcare.
If you’ve had medicine prescribed by your Spanish GP, the farmacia will normally issue the medicine, but you’ll have to pay in full. Keep the receipts and the packaging and they can refund you once your SIP is valid. Due to the time restrictions on collecting a prescription they may only be able to refund you one months supply. I’m not totally sure on that, but the farmacia will tell you for sure I’m surprised they couldn’t tell you what was the problem with your SIP card.
I agree with Paul temporary cards are flimsy, permanent cards are solid (credit card like)

Thank You for all the Replies, The Cards we got were Initially paper, as they did not have the Plastic to produce the "Proper" Cards !, we did eventually receive the Credit Card Type a few weeks later
Lynn is absolutely spot on, we came out on NLV, went to Alicante for Fingerprints etc, and got our residencia, the problem has been with our Former Solicitors not taking care of our Year 2 & 3 Renewal, and leaving us high & dry, our new Solicitor advises us that we have 3 x months "grace", to get the renewal done, and has given us a list of what she needs, which we could have been collecting the past 2 months
We will crack on with the Renewal, and follow up with the SIP's ASAP
Thanks Again
