Intasure are very good if the property is a holiday home, unfortunately they stopped insuring main homes a couple of years ago, although they will pass your details on to someone that can quote for a main home for you.
Have you tried getting a quote from Liberty Seguros? They provide all documents in English, and are one of Spain's leading insurance companies for expatriates.

That's a very good point. Are there many burglaries/robberies in this area and is it a safer or more unsafe area than it used to be. Also, apart from the obvious safety precautions taken when you leave your property, does anyone recommend any particular door etc which may be a deterrent. I know grilles and alarms are sensible - anything else? By the way, I noticed the talk about earthquakes! Is that likely?!! Are we in an earthquake area?

Hi Richardpat,
It might be worth waiting to see how much the bank want to charge for the bankers draft, they may offer a lower rate if you get the house insurance from them too. Might be worth doing with them for the first year, then switch. I use my bank at the moment and it is quiet a competitive price, remember though if you do go with one company and want to change the following year you need to give three months notice before renewal to change. The best insurance company I have used is Spanish Insurance next to Yorkshire Linen near the arches, competitive quotes, friendly staff and good communication. Although as with all you only really know how good they are when you need to use them! You should be able to get terms and conditions in English too whoever you use.
Good luck with your purchase

Robberies are low compared to other areas. If you look through, most crimes are opportunistic, people leaving their bags on the floor when they go to the loo or leaving a door open at the back when they are at the front and so on. There were quite a few robberies on the new areas but it was believed workmen (often temporary) had access to keys so always best to change the locks when you move in.
We have had a couple of earthquakes. I think it was two in one day last year (or the one before) but not big enough to cause damage. If you live on a residential area, your community insurance should cover you for buildings so check on what you need to actually insure for.
We have building and contents insurance with Linea Directa. The bank was something like 420 euro but now we pay around 200 euro so one thing to think about.

Iam with Linea Directa, however before I moved here permanently I insured with Saga. They pay for flights if you have a problem with the property & also cover rentals.
