We are insured through Sabadell. A few years I received notification of a huge price hike. I went in to see them and they gave me a new policy at half the price of the old! I suppose that they think that if you don't complain you're happy with the

Which is exactly what they all do these days - Those that don't complain pay for those that do! It's a known fact - I feel sorry for the people that just accept their renewal quotes. It shouldn't be like this. It's like the utilities - If you don't switch to a better tariff or another supplier you end up paying a higher price - We all use the same gas & electric, except for the amount we use, so I never understand why it can't be regulated to one set price.

We are completing purchase of a property on 18th November and will be moving to Lo Marabu, Dona Pepa about next April/May. Our bank, Sabadell want to quote for house insurance. Does anyone have house insurance with Sabadell and is the cover any good? (i.e. reasonable price and service compared with independant insurance companies). All advice most welcome.

I would get a quote from a few different ones and also ask if u will get a renewal notice when the insurance is near its end so you can shop around again like we do in the UK. Also check the rules for cancellation as the 2 months notice that Spanish banks and some other companies use is a nuisance to cancel which is obviously why it's done. Our old Spanish home insurance (arranged through our bank at the time) would not give a price for renewal and we only knew the price when it was taken from our direct debit...madness !
I would think a company independent from your bank would be easier, especially if you can walk in locally and sort things out with them. Some may even let you pay with a card/cash each year, instead of having a direct-debit, which you could do if you were full-time in Spain. We can't do that because we are non-resident (holiday-homers) so we use the on-line company Intasure.

i have house insurance with sabadell, it is a good comprehensive policy, got a quote from linea directo...less than 10 euros difference and with sabadell it is 2 x 6 monthly payments...easier to budget for.

Surely there is more to consider than just price when insuring your property ? The premium is a major factor but so are:
* Excesses
* Satisfaction levels.
* Details of cover.
* Ease of making a claim.
* Speed of settling a claim.
* etc etc

Re: House insurance advice: Changing cover to another compan

Hi All,
Thanks for your info. I've now had 3 quotes for house insurance - 1 off Donna at Right Move (Thanks tjtrev), 1 off Sabadell and 1 off Spanishinsurance.net (Generali Seiros - they have a branch at Calle los Arcos, Quesada).
The 2 independant quotes were similar in price but Right Move provided more cover details. The quote from Sabadell was 100 Euros more expensive than the others. Looks like I shall be paying Donna at Rightmove a visit when I come over. She reckons the price will come down further as I forgot to mention we have grills fitted and a security door etc. Again, thanks all for your help and advice. P.S. The forum is brill! I visit the website every day!
