House insurance advice: Changing cover to another company

Re: House insurance advice: Changing cover to another compan

Hi Simon & Sue,

Donna has sent my policy through to the UK from the following address:

Donna Lowman [[email protected]]. The previously quoted post had the 'c' missing from 'insurance!'

Hope this helps - Martin

We're non residents &, over the 10 years we've owned, we've been recommended to try endless insurance companies. We've been with Liberty Seguros ...who are by The Gateway restaurant, opposite where Sam's bar was... for some time now for both the car & the property. We've always found the cover/price better than others. You should be aware that the contents part needs to cover for bathroom & kitchen fittings, that's just how it is here. Fortunately we have never needed to make a claim as that's when it shows who's best.

Thanks Chalkie

I am unsure whether it is best as this is just a holiday home to use a UK company or a Spanish company as I suspect I would not be there to deal with any claims if the need was to arise.

Totally understood. You could also try this one, we used it for our 1st year. We looked on the internet then found it was actually in our home town in the UK so we walked in. Compared with those in Spain they were a lot more but try them anyhow, might be good for you.

Hi,
We use Intasure ( https://www.intasure.com/) for our holiday home. It's worth getting a quote and you can deal with them in the UK.

Once you have changed over companies, check that the direct debit (if you pay that way) has also been cancelled!!!!

...and, as has been said before, if it's a Spanish company they generally need 3 months to cancel the 'old' policy or they will take the next insurance payment without refund - People have been caught out this way!

I had an initial quote from Intasure for buildings and contents for £276 but went with MyInsurance - the trading name of e-Insurance Ltd, authorised and regulated by the FCA. They're underwritten by Lloyds (good enough for me!) - quoted £201 so I went with them. I had an excess amount of £500 (both quotes) and their fully comprehensive 'superior' cover so that seemed quite fair for total peace of mind. I thought I'd let any interested party know. They're English so no problems with the language either.

Sounds like a good price. Did they put you with a Spanish company, as I thought MyInsurance were a comparison site?

Worth remembering that any quote(s) can be used to get a lower quote from a company you would rather use. I always 'barter' on my quotes these days.

Sometimes the first quote is good to hook us in - Also worth checking if they give you a price for renewal in advance of the renewal date each year, like they do in the UK, so you can go elsewhere if it seems too high. That was what our old Spanish house insurance wouldn't do and why we left them, with much difficulty!
