Hi,
There's a lot of good information on this site, so take your time and go through it all
But the most important points of your search should be to find a local lawyer and one which has both experience in bank repossessions and who is a specialist conveyancing lawyer, not a general lawyer.
My vote would go to Silvia Galve, the head lawyer at SGM Abogados. It's only recently set up, because she previously worked for a very large real estate company who sold lots of repossessions. She is my lawyer and I couldn't ask for a better person in my corner, especially because she explains everything in such good English.
Her new office is on Benijofar Main Street and you can reach her on 965724871 or [email protected]. At least talk to her and I'm sure you'll quickly understand why she's so highly thought of.
Being in Benijofar, she's also very convenient.
Good luck with the new house. I hope it works out great for you and you're soon enjoying the sun with the rest of us :)

We also use Fontanals in Quesada, Noellia, and find them excellent. Cindy

Hi just wanted to add that we purchased our forever villa in Quesada last July and we used Fontanals in Lo Marabu our legal representative was Maria who also is the manager of the office - she was brilliant. She even helped us with filling out online application for local school. Nothing was too much trouble and she gave us lots of time to understand the Spanish process The lady on the front desk also was very helpful (Yolanda) - we had Fontanls recommended to us from a friend. It can be a mine field at times - Spanish authorities love paperwork. Just take great care about the bank you choose as some will charge you large amounts for handling YOUR money.

Oh right, we will be setting up an account, and was hoping to go with one in the strip in Quesada. Is there one that stands out from the rest?

We now bank with Bankinter in Dona Pepa - where we don't have bank charges but everyone's requirements are different - I would go into as many banks as you can in Quesada high street and asked lots for questions - do your homework and give yourself time to decided the right one for you. We got our figures burnt - La Caixa charged us massive amounts to handle transfers from England for actually doing very little and then charged us again to transfer money out

Hi,

I'm not sure there is any bank that stands out from any other but most people (me included) will say their bank is the best, unless they've had problems.

I would advise going into a few and asking questions and get some information from each one. The way they talk to you and their customer service may help you make a choice. Convenience such as location and whether they have other branches nearby is a good factor.

Most banks in Spain have charges now and that could be a good question to ask -'What are your charges?' That way, if you have time, you could compare each bank and their charges. The transfer charges are good to compare, especially if you will be transfering money from the UK to Spain on a regular basis, not just when buying the property.

The British banks have mostly been taken over and Barclays, if it hasn't already, is going that way too.

We are with Sabadell and after being with Halifax, which was taken over by Lloyds which was then taken over by Sabadell, surprisingly we are happy with them. They speak good English and the customer service is good. and charges are reasonable and not extortionate as we found one bank we were with in the very early days was.

Good luck choosing.

Solbank (banco sabadell) is good and my personal accounts are there, but they're far from perfect and there has been a noticeable reduction in service standards in recent months. The personal touch has gone..
My business accounts are at Barclays Bank and, even though they are in the process of being taken over by La Caixa bank, they have by far the best service, especially from the manager, Sven, to whom nothing is too much trouble. Everything is explained clearly and carefully, so there are no misunderstandings.
I've had accounts elsewhere, including Bankinter, but my vote will definitely go to Sven and his team at Barclays Bank

Also, ask your lawyer for a recommendation., Silvia (SGM Legal) told me to go to Barclays, she arranged the appointment, Scen was waiting for me and knew everything I needed in advance and, because The recommendation came from Silvia I was charged a fraction of the normal cost for my cheques on completion oft house. Very impressive servic, so see if you can get your lawyer to make an introduction for you and you'll get a better deal

We had La Caixa recommended to us by our estate agents - Well we must have got Sven and his team on a bad day at La Caixa - we had visited other banks and agree La Caixa look a good service. We asked the lady who took all our details and the manager (Sven) several times about transfers and their charges their answers were vague !!! however we were running out of time to set up account so we initially went with them. So I can only say again - give yourself plenty of time to find the right bank for you.

Hi Sheriff, we use Mar at Sol 4 in Benimar. Not exactly Quesada, but as near as. Our advice is don't limit your choice by what's available right in Quesada. We did what you're doing and picked Mar through recommendation. We have never looked back. And we've sent friends to her who've been just as pleased. She costs us about half what our last one did and her work is twice as good. I don't know why people are sending you to banks. You need a good, independent, specialist, lawyer and Mar is perfect.
