travel Insurance

Postby jencco » Thu Sep 19, 2019 5:40 pm

I wonder if any of you kind readers can help. We are non resident and like to come over from the UK for long periods up to 6 months. 70 plus with medical issues, but generally healthy.
Many people come over on this sort of long stay, but insurance seems to be way OTT and could stop our visits as too prohibitive with the cost.
Can anyone suggest companies they have used with similar circumstances, or any other way of getting the required cover.

Hi try the Ehic plus travel insurance, we used it for my mum and it was half the price of any other quotes we got.

Correct me if I’m wrong but when and if brexit happens you won’t be allowed to spend six months here without being resident, you will only be able to spend 90 days in 180.

try, ''moneysupermarket'', I have been getting mine on their each year for the last few years, you can pick out the policy that has the main points you want covering, hopefully at a better price.

and in reply to ''lockey57'', that has been the law for many years already and is not related to Brexit, it seems to be one of those areas that has never been enforced much, and some people just treat it as 6 month in a 12 month period. I also know of people who stay much longer and have never been pulled up on it either, not that that makes it ok of course.

Whatever insurance you take out make sure you disclose all preexisting conditions..

Insurance companies are not well known for their understanding nature if you have misled them.

..Just listen to what has been said on here and get quotes from all of them.. don´t forget, if it sounds too good to be true....

why not take out travel insurance to get to spain, then inquire about insurance for the period while in spain with a Spanish company, like liberty or such,

In reply to Daz's comments "and in reply to ''lockey57'', that has been the law for many years already and is not related to Brexit, it seems to be one of those areas that has never been enforced much, and some people just treat it as 6 month in a 12 month period. " That statement is totally incorrect . . .
It is currently Spanish law that you need to seek residence and make tax provisions if you stay longer than 6 Months in any 12 Months (continuous or in smaller periods) . . . the 90 days that you speak of is that you should start above proceedings within 90 days if you intend to stay longer than 6 Months in any year.
If or when Brexit happens you will be barred from entering the EU under EU law for more than 90 days in any 180, that means in any EU country in total (i.e. 1 month in Germany and 2 in Spain uses up your 6 Month allowance) so it IS Brexit related, after leaving we will be treated like a US passport holder for instance.

Not correct Babu, but I don’t mind, I’m not going to explain further. Correct info will most probably be available on the gov.uk website ‘after’ brexit. Respectfully I won’t be replying again, so good luck in what you decide.
