Airport Runs

Re: Airport Runs

Sad thing is when foreigners started buying property in Spain, albeit on the Costa Del Sol, mid-60's!!!! The Malaga government realised the potential and built a train line stopping across the road from Malaga airport's car park and still running to this day. Clean, cheap, pay on board, and always a security chap walking up and down. Starts 3 stops inland from Malaga and goes right down to Fuengirola stopping at all the main villages where a lot of ex-pats live. From about 8am to 11pm 365 days a year, train every 15/20 minutes. Absolutely no different to what we could have here land-wise. Unfortunately the Valencian Government, now broke, were only interested in the building of houses for foreigners side of things. So what goes around comes around..........and that's why The Costa del Sol will always have the upper hand on the Costa Blanca, and why property prices are almost double there.

I have a car in Spain, parked outside my house, but my friends pick me up from the airport and bring me back each time.

They do this for three or four of their friends, but they noticed that things are getting a lot tougher as far as picking people up are concerned, as the police keep a close watch.

As I go to Spain on my own it is better this way, for me, since I know the people into whose car I am getting. However, couples and families, who live on my community, often get Spanish taxis from the airport and there is hardly any difference between the registered taxi charges and the charges of the illegal taxi drivers.

I can understand that sandra. I don't like getting a taxi on my own and it must be nice to have a friend drop you off and pick you up from the airport. We take turns with our friends in the UK, taking each other to and from the airport and there's nothing wrong with that but it would feel quite uncomfortable to be watched by the police each time.

I think that the police have had to try and step in as the legal Spanish taxi drivers have been losing out.

The police were watching when I came over in June - but disappeared when I gave my friends the "continental kiss" and a big hug - they probably decided that I wouldn't do that to a complete stranger!!

Hi Dave,
When you get here and get to know your neighbours you will probably be able to get someone to give you a lift, possibly in exchange for you taking them to the airport occasionally too.
I think that what people are saying on here is to avoid the offers,if you get any, by persons unknown as they may be illegal 'taxi's' and its not worth the risk for only 5 or 10 euros less. A friend of ours used the taxi desk just outside the arrival area as they came through to get a taxi to Quesada. As long as you ask the price in advance you should be ok. Should be around 45 to 50 euros.Hope this helps.

There is a taxi in Quesada its white and sits up at the top of the road but if you ask in the bars or restaurants they will phone him, I havent used him but my husband and friends have they say his prices are quite reasonable.

I have used www.costa-blanca-transfers.com for years and have found them to be good. cheaper than airport taxis too.

My friends, who live in Los Balcones, use the airport bus. There is a website somewhere with the times on. I forget just how much it costs - but I believe in the region of €7 each. :D

Hello Sandra,
I have heard a good report on the airport bus by friends who used it this Summer. They were staying in Torrevieja, so it was more convenient as Torrevieja is one of the stops. They also used it on the return journey. However, it doesn't stop at Quesada but our friends noticed that it went right past, which is a shame and also strange that a big place like Quesada doesn't get a stop off or pick up point. Our friends said the bus was not even a third full which unfortunately will probably end up making it non-profit making. They also said that they are not sure if it will be an all year round service. Last year it started up and stopped running for some reason and this year it started up again...wonder if there is any 'political' reason that there is not a regular comprehensive bus service to and from the airport that takes in Quesada and other towns? :?
