Dave, there are many residents who do airport runs, but have to be careful, it is illegal to do this for payment, unless you are licenced. If caught, and the police look out for regular visits by non licenced vehicels at the airport, then it is a 1000 euros fine and conviscation of car on second offence.
Anyone could be reading these sites !!!

Hi jan and rob..
Thanks for your replies sure as I get to know a few people on here can exchange numbers and sort things in private.
When I do move over in jan I am going to drive but will need to comute a few times before then and I hear a taxi to the airport could be very expensive.
Also just a lift to the main coastal road could be good as I could jump on a bus to the airport from there.

Perhaps best if you look into legal ways of getting here first!! Spanish taxis aren't that expensive plus they can quote before you decide. There are a couple of local taxi numbers under TAXIS on this site. Also, there's absolutely no insurance in non-licensed vehicles. Sorry to sound a party pooper but our "hosts" need a bit of a leg-up at the moment. One day, the very very STUPID local government will see the error of their ways, and actually put in some sort of decent public proper transport from Alicante airport to all the surrounding main towns down South - instead of wasting all that money on a new terminal!! At the moment it all points to Benidorm like we're the forgotten Costa Blancans.....

Did a search for 'Taxi' and only came up with one number - are there any more? Thanks.

I heard, or read somewhere, that there is a bus service from Alicante airport to Torrevieja. It started ... then it stopped and recently it seems it has started up again. The last time I looked at a schedule of the service it certainly did not look like "decent public transport", as it was every two hours and only so many times a day (not that many!!) Flights don't do 9 to 5 with a siesta in the middle!! I will try to research again and find out if it's any better this time.
From what I gather the taxi drivers call the shots and don't want any other public transport - ok..they have to make a living but there are many flights coming into Alicante and enough work for a good public transport system and taxi's. It works in other countries - We need a choice of transport from Alicante & at sensible times (one bus going back & forth won't work ) There should not be a monopoly for taxi's - can you imagine that from UK airports? Also I have never heard of drivers being stopped, at Gatwick or Heathrow, and questioned for taking their family or neighbours to the airport. A good transport system would cut down on the risks of illegal taxi's too.

I will get some numbers when we go to Spain next month and put them on here. If you are in Quesada now, Anne, 'Rosa Tours' travel shop opposite the petrol station has taxi numbers on a card and they can also phone for you to get a quote & even book it for you if you want them to.
Hope this helps.
Jan.

Those that do that are stupid though ! A good Airport transport system should cut down on those type of 'taxi's' ! By good, they have to be reliable and very regular with more than one bus doing all the trips....roll on a train line, it's almost a straight line along the coast.... or will the taxi drivers protest against that!
