Some salient points, however, what I will tell you is this, I have been out canvassing various “landlords, owners” etc and three of them have all offered me work, however they have all been sadly lacking in basic courtesy insofar as, I have been out doing research and putting together a bespoke quiz for their type of operation. One owner just kept me hanging on and then put the onus on me and said that he was waiting for me to get in touch with him, this is after I had sent him about four reports on what I’d been doing. I had to put him straight about that. Another owner, I had a meeting with for around two hours, told me that she wanted me to do the quiz and even offered me three or four shifts on the bar, due to my trade experience and then never even had the decency to ring me and then she brought in someone else to do a quiz…..which again, makes you wonder if these kind of “operators” have any idea what they are doing, they change their mind on a whim and mess you around without any qualms, so I have to be careful when discussing what I can offer to some people, they talk a good game, but that is all. I am sure the right opportunity will come up and then it is down to me to make it happen and I’m quite confident of doing that, a case of when and where, thanks for your comments.

That all depends on what is needed by the client, each owner may have different needs, requirements, but I would try and give them a complete package lasting 2 to 2 and a half hours, as their is enough interesting and fun content within what I do, to keep the interest of the customers for them to keep coming back week after week. I am not wanting to discuss what makes my show different to any other, that will be through discussions with interested parties and I’m sure within a short space of time, people will hear about it, or at least I hope so.

I couldn't agree more about the lack of good quizzes in the area! We used to love going to them in the UK, but cringe at them when we see/hear them here. If they're only done for bringing in punters then that's a quiz for booze sake only, which is a sad state of affairs, really. Sounds like you are more professional and interesting Lowsun, so I'd be more than happy to give yours a try!

I have heard of a number of quizmasters have been offered a contract, at a price, only to be asked later to take a reduction in their fee. Others have had a contract, only for the bar to close for four weeks.

There’s a rum bunch of unscrupulous owners out there. I hope you manage to avoid them.

One of the things I wanted to do, was get back into quizzing, having had a lengthy and successful (thankfully) career within the entertainment, management and night time economy trade, I just wanted to be doing something useful. I have been out and done quite a lot of research and taken part in numerous quizzes of all types and am surprised to say the standard was pretty poor. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything like that, but the standard of presentation, the equipment and the attitude of some owners is pretty patronising and doesn’t do the paying public much service when the standards are so low. I appreciate that businesses have had a rough time of it with COVID and everyone is fighting for a smaller footfall because of all the restrictions etc, but surely that is not a signal that standards should drop. I was out last Friday evening and popped into a local hostelry that serves nice Guinness, the presenter was absolutely shocking, he was three sheets to the wind, the sound system was like a home hi fi and he couldn’t operate that properly, people could not hear outside and I wondered why we should accept this poor standard? If anyone is interested in discussing a proper structured plan for their operation, then please feel free to get in touch, no obligation. I have got a portable modern beautiful sounding set up, I have various components to do a real proper fun quiz, with props and a wealth of knowledge and experience in promoting venues and being successful in making strong sessions for your business. I would like to think I can help and improve the standards that seem to be sadly lacking at the moment, but time will tell and I only hope that some bar owners see this and take it in the spirit that it is intended. Stay safe.

I smell another keyboard warrior who uses the anonimity of a forum to spout spurious and libelous facts about persons and establishments unknown. I suspect I know the Friday bar in question and it is a well known fact by all regular users and entrants to the ''fun quiz'' that the sound system needs an overhall and upgrade. If Lowsun10 was there at the start and indeed entered the quiz he would of heard an advanced apology for the poor sound quality. If I am correct as to the establishment the owners are investing in a new system - not something to be done lightly with current financial position many are in.

Did you ask around the bar if the clientele were satisfied with the evening? I do not think you did.If you have carried out research into this bar and others with 5 hour quiz/etertainment you will have noticed that these poor quality events have the same clients returning week after week. People generally want a fun quiz not to enter University Challenge or Mastermind.

If you are so good and professional why not approach the venue owners and tell them what you can provide and at what cost. If you have recently returned to Quesada you will not have been through the tough times all owners have had and it is to their credit and that of their regular customers that they are still in business.

I suggest you go and hawk your services and prices to all bar owners rather than expect them to come running to you. I would also suggest you take heed with libelous comments before someone denounces you for the same.

See you at the quiz on Friday where you can introduce yourself to everyone and tell them what a waste of time they are having.

Wow, what a quite judgemental post. Firstly, I am not a keyboard warrior, just an open minded individual who knows how things should work and no, I was not at the quiz from the start and also, I observed the quiz with an open mind and based on years of high end experience. My comments were honest and based on fact, not malice as you may infer or suggest. I am fully aware of the difficulties owners have endured since COVID having run approximately 14 businesses in the UK and abroad, so I feel qualified to say what I have said. I just want to improve the standards of what customers should come to,expect and I don’t wish to enter into a debate with you about what my professional expectations are or what you think they should be, I am not interested in that, my comments were based on what I saw and heard and what customers said and be,I eve me, I didn’t canvass customers en bloc, I spoke to some regulars and asked their opinions and I have to say, they are residents and regulars and I did not encourage them in any way, I just asked their opinion and they just told me their thoughts. I want to draw a line under this as I am not here to fall out with anyone, I have not mentioned anyone by name, nor would I, just taking an overview of the current scenario. If you wish to try and pull me over the coals, then go ahead, I just want to improve the standards and make it a better vibe for all concerned. If three out of ten is the standard, then I would say it’s a sad state of affairs, but I think people are prepared to pay for a quality night out. Maybe I need to lower my standards? Thanks for your comment , stay safe.
