Hoping you can help!

Hi, we are a retired couple thinking of relocating and Quesada popped up during our research. We will be looking to rent long term and have the following questions.

Is Quesada relatively flat as I have mobility problems?
Is it a safe place to live, regarding robberies/muggings?
Does it have groups to join in order to meet new people?
Does it have a strong community feel?
Is it a good mix of nationalities or mainly Brits?
Does it have all the amenities for day to day living?
Does it have transport facilities ie buses/trains to other parts of Spain?
Does it have good medical facilities?

Sorry for all the questions, but I think getting info from the locals is invaluable, good and bad, when moving to an area you are not familiar with.

Thanks

Some parts are, some parts aren't. Lots of hills but lots of flat places.
Is it a safe place to live, regarding robberies/muggings?
Yes. It does have some, obviously, but quite low compared to most places. Many are spur of the moment robberies so take normal precautions. Especially be aware of pickpockets in supermarkets and shops thanks to our E European people.
Does it have groups to join in order to meet new people?
Lot of groups, line-dancing, bowls, coffee mornings - depends on what you want.
Does it have a strong community feel?
Most residences do. Very good one on ours and best to ask people living there when you look around.
Is it a good mix of nationalities or mainly Brits?
Lots of nationalities. Yes, lots of Brits, but loads of countries represented. eg. I live in a block of 8. We have Russian, Welsh, Brit, Norwegian, Irish and Dutch in that block of 8.
The block of 8 across from us has Norwegian, Dutch, Brit, Icelandic and Spanish.
Does it have all the amenities for day to day living?
Yes, lots of things available in Quesada or very close by.
Does it have transport facilities ie buses/trains to other parts of Spain?
No. Very few buses to anywhere and not trains without travelling to another town. The one thing that has been lacking but, when they do start up a bus service, it usually folds very quickly as no-one uses them.
Does it have good medical facilities?
Excellent health centre, some medical staff insist on translators but others get by. Also a private doctors and an emergency room in Rojales (of which Quesada is a part).

Just to add a few things to the previous reply - yes Quesada provides everything for day to day and year round living from shops, banks, supermarkets and trades people etc, plus all the social aspects including restaurants and bars - however as pointed out, it really is desirable to have your own transport in most respects.

Overall since 2009 we have found Quesada a fine place to be ! Good luck with your search

Fine towards the lower part of Quesada...but if you have ANY issues with mobility, or any respiratory problems, just avoid the "top end" up near Big Shopping.

You'll need an oxygen mask just to breathe in the rarified air...and it's like a big dipper getting from there to anywhere with reasonable shopping or dining!

Hi, like many costal areas Quesada is relatively flat, it is a tourist / retirement area and has everything you would expect shops, activities, social groups cafes bars restaurants etc.,
It is very large, i think it is the largest housing estate in Europe so getting around requires long walks or some form of transport, many people find their mobility improves because of the warmth and coastal air. Health care is probably better than the UK and more affordable there are many nationalities with Brits making up the largest proportion english is widely spoken but you can haves lots of fun learning and practicing spanish

Thanks for all your replies. We have been living in Spain since 2018 and live in a working Spanish town in Andalusia. Because it is hilly and the pavements can be very narrow, meaning I have to walk in the road a lot of the time, we need to move. Ideally we would love to be on the coast, but you always get more for your money inland, we rent. We will visit the area in November/December to get a better feel for the area.

Of all the things you list, the two caveats to living in the Quesada area are : Hills and lack of public transport. If you have mobility problems , you need to be careful where you choose - there ARE a few relatively flat areas - but much of Quesada area is extremely hilly, you have to really have a good look round to be sure you pick an area that's right for you. Relatively flat areas close to shops/bars etc are : the area around Lo Marabou and Dona Pepa , the bottom part of Benimar ( some slopes but not much) and the very bottom beside the golf course near the La Marquesa commercial area. It has to be by the very bottom ( and there are some nice bungalows along the front looking on to the golf course), other areas around the golf course are on killer hills . Public transport is pretty sparse and cant be relied on, so you need to have a car. However those 3 flattish areas I mentioned are genuine walking distance to bars/restaurants/shops. For travelling further afield, Guardamar is on the mainline bus route between Cartagena and Alicante so a taxi to Guardamar ( c. 20 euros) and you can link up with the mainline buses.

Maybe if you have a look at Rojales itself it might suit you.
Rojales is a small Spanish village of which Quesada is a part. It has all the shops you will need for day to day living, has about four supermarkets and lots of bars. You can get to the centre of Quesada every morning by bus for less than 2 euros and catch it back again just after lunch. If you time your buses well you can get to Guardamar, Torrevieja, Orihuela, Alicante and more. You get to enjoy a Spanish village and Quesada is on on your doorstep.
