Its time.....

Its time.....

Postby richardlionheart » Fri Feb 23, 2018 11:14 pm

..to exit Lincolnshire. The kids have grown up and cleared off. The parents are now all dead. Me and my wife no have no relatives in this area, we seen everything in Lincolnshire, been everywhere in Lincolnshire, done everythign i nLincolnshire. We have exhausted all the possibilities of Lincolnshire.

Plus i hate the cold. i grew up in an unheated house in Lincoln, I remember getting up in the winter mornings and scraping the ice off the inside of the bedroo mwindows. You learned to get dressed in bed when I was a lad. Me and the missus want to run out the clock in warmth and comfort.

Plus the Uk is done for. Crippled by Politiclal Correctness, corrupt from top to bottom. A madness has taken over this country in the last 30 years, and Its not the green, friendly pleasant land of my childhood. Plus, Lincoln has just been declared the third worst town for traffic after Manchester and London. I hate driving here.

SO its time to sell up, and flee. We are coming to Spain in June for three weeks, we hope to make some contacts. The house is going on the market in april, and we hope to arrive in Spain permanently with a fat wodge of cash, the proceeds from the house sale, to live off, around September time. No house owning, im done with that, its rental and all the problems are somone elses,

Ive moved twice in 30 years, the furthest distance was 5 miles. I have no idea how to move house. And Ive been out the country once in 63 years, one week in paris on the Eurostar, 10 years ago.

So fish out of water doesnt even staret to describe it. Comfort zones are non existent.

We are coming to Quesada in June to find somewhere, make contacts. Any and all help would be appreciated, espacially if somone already living their could meet us for a day, or even an hour, and give us some help.

Into the Brave New World is scary.

Steve and Mo.

I love your approach!
I think you’re doing the right thing by renting, it gives you much more flexibility.

Make sure that the property you rent has airconditioning and decent heating. You’d be surprised how cold it gets at night during late autumn, winter and early spring months. Avoid properties that provide the free standing ‘Calor’ gas heaters as these are very unsatisfactory. Open log fires can be nice, but can leave the house dusty and smokey and can be high maintenance.

I’m sure there will be plenty of ex-pats happy to give you some of their time. I’m not sure if I’ll be in Spain in June, but if I am then you’re welcome to a day of my time.

Good luck with your new lives.

Pete.

Hi Richard, I don’t know if you need to talk to someone with lots of experience or someone new like us who have just done it but we moved here permanently on 1st January. We lived in our last place for 37 years so it’s been hard to leave all of our friends behind and start again from new. We absolutely love it here and everyone speaks English. We can walk to the shops and bars and there is so much to do. We can’t wait for it to start getting warmer. We bought a place though and it’s been fun doing bits and bobs to the house to make it our own. There are hundreds of places to rent, just choose which area you want to look at and go from there. We’d be happy to chat with you both over a coffee or a beer. Good luck with the house sale and move.

Be sure to secure your long term let well in advance, as in June, only high priced holiday lets will be available. Also, most lets are for furnished properties. You may be better to wait till end of September when the main season is over if you have not got accommodation already arranged. Good luck.

We will be at Queasada 6th-21st June. House goes on market in 5 weeks, we expect the process of selling will take until early September, so we built 10 weeks slack into the plan. We want a finka, away from the tourist traps - Log burner, air con, patio, garden, maybe even a bit of land I can use as an allotment. We'll need to either register this trusty old 2004 deisel Rover 75 in Spain, or buy another car. We need to bring the cat, hes 17 and a fully paid up member of the family. Ill need a decent internet connection, and the wife requires many many hairdressers and shops....

We know exactly what we want, we just dont quite know how to get there .

We ran away from our responsibility's last year and the hardest bit is leaving family, the worst bit is they keep turning up for holidays :D . We are loving our new life and would never go back to the UK. If we can help with the madness and excitement of starting a brand new life, feel free to PM.

Good luck with it all and I hope like us it gives you a new zest for life.

Hi Steve and Mo

We live near Lincoln and I have been holidaying in Ciudad Quesada since I was 17, I'm 47. Bought our own place in 2014 and holiday there whenever we can, about every 6 weeks. Just waiting for the right time to go permanently.

If you like to meet up or ask any information, don't hesitate to ask.

I would suggest you rent your property or buy a smaller place in the UK for letting out and then purchase/rent your own in Spain, plenty available but don't cut your ties to the UK unless you know it's for you.. I'm sure your love it and won't regret it.

Good luck with your search and fun in the sun.

Always very good advice to not burn bridges - You never know when you may need that 'bridge' - Selling up and having a wad of cash will not set you up for the future - No matter how wonderful Spain is, life changes, health changes and we all get older. A small property left in the UK (if it's feasible) will always be an investment and can be sold at a later date if need be, or used as a bolt hole to stay in the UK at anytime or to set up home again in the UK as the case may be.
