Moving to Quesada
by Ireneinveraray » Thu Jul 05, 2018 1:32 am
Hi, we are moving to Quesada at the end of August. We bought a place in April and it’s all about packing up and and traveling with our two westies. Bank account opened, Got our NIE numbers etc. We will have to buy a car ASAP, any suggestions on where to go? How to get there (without a car). Is the price asked for the price you pay, or do you make an offer? If we buy from a dealer will the dealer arrange registration etc. Thanks

You can make an offer to second hand dealers
But dealerships usually have a fixed price. If you search the forum there are recommended garages.
Prices are high here and most used cars are high milage.
I would budget €8- 10,000 unless you can snap up a
bargin - e.g. someone who is returning to UK and looking for a quick sale.
It may be worth hiring a car a couple of weeks to get you
around all the car sale places.
Keep an eye on the forum - sometimes bargins do appear.

Hi Irene & James
Hire a car to get around to view potential cars.
Be extremely careful who you buy from as most used dealers sell high mileage cars. Our solicitor bought a used car from some dealer and found out the the clock had been wound back 100,000 kilometres. She immediately asked for her money back.
We bought a used car from a Toyota main agent in Elche and it was a low mileage, one owner with a full service history and guaranteed.
All the best
Regards
Joe

Not all Town Halls will let you have a Padron if you aren't Resident so it can't be the rule. Definitely your NIE is needed and Passport. Buy from a Reputable Garage and they will sort out the everything for you.

There was a scandal a few years ago when it was found a secondhand car dealer was 'clocking' the cars and as far as I know they went out of business.
We bought a two year old Kia Rio from the main Kia dealer in Torevieja in 2014. It had 37,000km on it (roughly 24,000 miles) and cost 7900 euros. After 2,000 miles it was found to have a worn out clutch and the dealer fitted a new clutch free of charge. The car is now 6 years old and has 53,000km on it. We service it at the main dealer once a year. We only live in Spain about 3 months a year.
Personally, I would recommend a main dealer if you want a low mileage car.
It seems to me there is a difference between main dealers in the UK and dealers in Spain - they don't seem to have many second hand cars for sale. I was told that the Spanish buy a car and run it forever - hence the lack of low mileage cars. It might be true as the Spanish were hit very hard by the recession and maybe cannot afford to change cars regularly.
As in the UK, the main dealers are clustered. On the road where Kia is in Torrevieja, for instance, there are Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes dealers etc.

You can get your padron at Rojales Town Hall. Go to the man on the right, he does speak English. I bought our Spanish car from Autos Direct (Google them to see their stock). They did everything with regard to paperwork for me. I can honestly say that in all the years I have buying cars, as a punter, this company are the best. I trust them implicitly. You can either phone Paul or Alex and they will put you at your ease I am sure. Their after sales service is brilliant, I know!
I don’t know this company other than as a very satisfied customer.

Hi we bought our car from Andy at Car Brokers Spain, in Benijofar an 11 plate Seat Ibiza with 44k on the clock, had it nearly three years now and its been spot on, no trouble with the car at all. Andy deals with all the paperwork I would recommend a look, good hunting Dave
