Need some advice!

Need some advice!

Postby Gerryb94 » Sat Mar 10, 2018 4:40 pm

Hi everyone. We have just bought a Buena Vista Blue Top upper floor apartment, we wanted to hang a mirror, which is reasonably heavy, on what I’d deem to be the main exterior wall. We’ve been advised not to try to put anything heavy as the brick can’t cope? Any experience?
Thanks Gerry and Patricia

The walls will be of pot construction so will be hollow if you drill a hole you will need to put in some special cavity wall plugs to secure the screw

We have a Buena Vista ground floor apartment and fixing to the walls is a pain. Jpeg's advice is correct.

We've hung a heavy large mirror on the dividing wall between us and next door and used cavity fixings plus a good dose of Polyfilla-type stuff to the hole when inserting the screw. It's been there 12 months now and hasnt moved.

A small strip of suitable wood screwed to the wall to support the bottom of the mirror will distribute the weight load i.e. the load won’t be just on the two cavity fixings. If you use decorate varnished wood the effect is in keeping with the mirror - a thing length of wood support may not even be visible but will help support the mirror!
