Repeat Prescriptions

Hi everyone
We are moving to Quesada in October, we have all the paperwork sorted NIE etc. Could someone help and tell us the best way to get a repeat prescription, as my wife needs about 9 different medications for her heart complaint. Any info would be great. Many thanks Alan & Jenny Curtis

If you are moving to Quesada permanently you will need to get your SIP cards.. these will entitle you to full medical cover in Spain(at the moment)... you will then be assigned a doctor who you should visit and explain your needs..
Hopefully the doctor will prescribe appropriate medication (not necessarily the same as in the UK).. usually on a yearly basis, but it depends on the script and the doctor
.. You then just go to the chemist at the assigned time each month (which is written on your script). and hey presto you get your medication..
.. Depending on your age and income the prescriptions could be free or you may have to make a small payment..
But it is pretty easy..once you have your SIP cards..

You have to become resident and be in receipt of your government pension in order to get full Spanish health without payment.
You can get a temporary SIP card ( lasts for 6 months) if you go on the Padron. This will entitle you to be assigned a doctor and get reapeat prescriptions from him until you get your residencia.

You dont need to get private health insurance unless you want too ..as you can get spanish health service off the back of your wife .. this should should be done var the same place you have sent for your S1..

Get your doctor in the U.K. to give you a list (report) of your medication you have been/are taking then show that to your doctor and they will give you a Spanish prescription. This is what we did when we moved here 5 years ago. The charges here for most prescription meds are so much cheaper than the U.K.

Yes, you should ask Newcastle for a dependent's S1, based on your wife's. You don't have to be literally financially dependent on her, just married. You can of course get private insurance as well if you want, but not necessary. Bring your marriage certificate to Spain and get it translated into Spanish as if you are using a dependent's S1 they may ask for a copy either at the residencia appointment or when you registering the S1 forms to get your SIP cards.

I found these forums, er.. fora.. er fori.. very useful when I first bought in Spain. Just remember there are no questions too small to post here.. ..also, many people live here, so if we can do it, so can you..
Just work through the legals.. Padron, Residencia, SIP card, Driving License, etc .. and if you are unsure, there are many translators out there that can make obtaining them pretty easy
.. look here to see how it is done...

When we moved here 15 or so years ago the doctors were in Quesada only, and wegave them our English prescription and they said no idea what this mealns we cant give you this until we have checked you over, we were a bit miffed at the time but in hindsight it made sence and gave us the Spanish versión of the treatment, also while talking medical, I must say how good Torrevieja hospital is, I needed a major operation in january, 4 men, 7 hours opp, several people said iI was lucky to be in Spain, say no more.
