You may have to get him over here with you for a POA or maybe the Spanish Embassy in the UK. when we did my parents POA the lawyers have to ensure that they are of sound mind as obviously you are in control of everything their finances, house etc. It's an awful situation for you to be in.

Again thanks for your advice.
Thanks RJC for the advice re the key holding services. I have noted the details of services you mentioned. Your advice seems very sensible to me. At the moment such services seem to make more sense than worrying about gardeners and pool cleaners!
You are not prying in any way Curious. All advice is welcome and helpful as I don't have any experience of living in Spain. He struggled last year with everything you mentioned. His neighbour was in daily contact with us. We relied on him to take Dad to the airport and make sure he made the plane home. He helped with all the pandemic travel paperwork too. It would be fair to say Dad will never travel alone again. Your comments re the bills are most useful too.
Over the last few years different friends and family members have stayed with him over the summers. We haven't ruled out taking him back with traveling companions.
The family situation is more complicated than I can ever explain in a few messages. But everyone's on good terms and there is currently no appetite to sell. The circumstances have led to the bills being missed and I want to help ensure that the essential outstanding ones are dealt with so the property is financially OK.
Does the car tax need to be paid if it is on a private drive? If it doesn't need ITV or tax why should I insure (it in my dad's name) as he's never realistically going to drive it again. Maybe we should leave it mothballed for the foreseeable? It would be one less issue to worry about at the moment. I don't want to cause problems with the authorities though.
As I said previously Dad is still managing to live independently in the UK.... just. Even if he had no memory problems he couldn't have travelled because of the pandemic so would have had to manage his bills from the UK.
I will track down his Spanish Solicitors and help him contact Sabadell Online.
I will ask his neighbour's son if he will collect all the mail and send it to us in the Uk.
There are other problems that I have reared their ugly head for my Dad recently. In my opinion he made the mistake of buying a Diamond Resorts EU Timeshare twenty years ago. He made the situation worse in 2012 when he bought a US one too. He hasn't been on any holiday with them for several years.
He has been trying to surrender both timeshares for a few years unsuccessfully. He can't just walk away apparently. He didn't share this with me until recently.
I've managed to get them to allow him to surrender the EU one - but he has to pay outstanding fees of over £2.5K!!
To enter the program to be considered for surrendering the US one requires a one off fee of $750US.
Plus all outstanding fees.
I don't know how much money he has in Sabadell but the timeshare fees are going to wipe out his Instant Access Savings in the UK. That's why I'm reluctant to commit to anything that incurs charges at the moment.
I will repeat myself and say I am grateful for your thoughts.

Chrisdee he bought the house in 2008 with his then wife - my step mum. Unfortunately she died in 2014 from cancer. They returned to the UK as she became more ill. She needed to make a Spanish Will and I remember Dad telling me it had to be made on Spanish soil. He asked if she could make it in the Embassy in London but they said no. She had to fly to Alicante to make it.
He has a Spanish Will. I remember him telling me that years ago. Maybe he made a POA back then too? Need to check with the Solicitors when I find them!
Have a good weekend.
