Health Insurance

We are moving to Spain in September and are currently obtaining health insurance quotes. Can you advise if we can opt for a lower level of cover and also use the ‘Convenio Especial’?

You have to have Residencia to get Convenio Especial and in order to apply for Residencia you cannot have the lower health Insurance.
We got our Health Insurance from Alfonso at Gran Alancant insurance who advertise on here. He was very helpful.

We got the best quote from Jennifer Cunningham Brokers in Benijofar - our insurance is with ASSSA. Basic level insurance and policies with co-payments will not be sufficient for obtaining your "Residencia" (Extranjeros listing).

As Sunworshipper has advised, you need "Residencia" before you can apply to join the Convenio Especial, but also note that you have to have your Residencia for 1 year before you can apply. The cost is currently Eu 60 per person, per month, plus a contribution to prescription fees depending on your age and income.
