Surely most sewing machines have an overlocking stitch on them. A lot of people wouldn’t call it overlocking. I presume you want to sew a seam and prevent it from ravelling. There are a choice of stitches on modern sewing machines that’ll do that for you. You’ll only find an overlocking sewing machine in a factory !

No you buy specific overlocking machine, I’ve got one, don’t use it too often and when I do it’s such a pain remembering how to thread the thing as it uses four reels of thread.

Most machines will have a zig zag stitch which you can use to stop fraying edges but the beauty and one of the skills is that overlocker will cut and stitch over the edge at the same time.

Yes I agree with what you say Lynn. An overlocker just gives a better edge.

I have also used the zig zag on my machine.

I still want an overlocker, but don't want to spend a fortune on it. I know lidl and Aldi have good makes, so I will wait. Thks for all your comments.

Take a look at an overlocker foot?

https://www.amazon.es/Prensatelas-Overlock-cortador-repuesto-accesorios/dp/B08THB37V3/ref=sr_1_6?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=18WD1K9MYGLTQ&keywords=Overlocker+foot&qid=1670760304&sprefix=overlocker+foot%2Caps%2C103&sr=8-6&tag=tqses-21

OK, it won’t give you a chain stitch but, it’s a cheap solution for a one off job or, to tide you over until that unbeatable LIDL offer comes by.

I have not seen an overlocker foot before so thank you very much for that information glasful. I think this is well worth the investment.

Glassful.
Have you ever realised how extraordinarily rude you are?
If you haven’t, perhaps you’ll take the time to try to be more civil.
There was absolutely no need for that comment. If I tried to be as rude as you, I couldn’t. This is not the first time I’ve thought this and no doubt it won’t be the last.

Well, your statement about overlockers was ill informed and wholly inaccurate. Do you write stuff, just for the sake of it?
