T.I.E. Procedure.

My wife and I have just returned from Alicante after successfully applying for our new T.I.Es.

Our appointments were both at the same time which is possible providing you do the applications one after another.
When we arrived at the building on Calle Ebanisteria 4-6, Alicante 03071 (Directions at end) there was a notice in Spanish saying if you have a Cita (appointment) you can enter the building 15 mins before your appointment.
We went through a security scan then were directed to a machine where, once you entered your NIE number, you were issued a slip of paper with a number on it indicating your turn.

We were only just through the door when our numbers came up with the desk number. You then go from the waiting area to a doorway marked SALA. The process took less than 15 minutes, the most tricky part was getting a good fingerprint sample from the machine in front of the desk.

We were then given an A4 sheet with instructions where to phone and go to in approximately 3 weeks time to collect the TIE. The address is; Calle Campo De Mirra, 6 Alicante.

We then used the opportunity of being in Alicante to find this building which is about 2 kms away. There is a huge car park just past the entrance to Aldi and at the other side of the car park is the building we need to go to in 3 weeks time.

Directions to Calle Ebanisteria 4-6.
Take the 332 to Alicante as if you are going to the airport.
After you go through the tunnel before the airport, keep to the left and follow to Alicante.
After about 3 kms, you will be approaching a large junction with the motorway above it. There are 2 lanes to turn left at this junction and I recommend the RH lane as when you get to the next roundabout you are taking the 3rd road off to your right, which looks like a residential road so go easy at this point.
After about 200 metres on this road, & after the apartment block there is a large car parking area on your right. Park up and walk the remaining 150 metres where you will see the 3 flags flying above the building and queue of people. If you are within 15 mins of your Cita, just go in past the queue.


My wife had gone to the bank a few days before our appointment to pay in the 12€ each for the new ID Card. She has advised that you do need to be computer literate and understand some Spanish, or at least be able to use google translate, in order to book the appointment, complete the form E23 (which can be downloaded and completed by hand). The final form 790 which is used to take to the bank to pay the fee of 12 euros, must be computer generated and completed online as each one has a separate bar code. If this seems a bit daunting you can pay your solicitor to do just the forms and the appointment. PSB in Torrevieja offer to do for this for 50 euros each, then all you have to do is take all your documents to Alicante. The 2 people who attended to us were very helpful and pleasant. My wife speaks good Spanish but I don´t consider it absolutely necessary providing you have all the correct documentation.



Carrying on with our T.I.E. experience, my wife phoned the given number on Tuesday morning and confirmed that our new T.I.E. cards were ready for collection. So off we went again to Alicante, parked up in the car park next to Aldi and joined a queue of about 30 people waiting to enter the police station. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the two desks handing out the cards. No Spanish was needed as the processors looked at our passports and paperwork, put our old green cards in a tray, took our fingerprints again, then handed over the new cards. No problems.
If however you are infirm or cannot stand for the 30 mins or so, as half of that time we were on the pavement outside in the sun, I would recommend that you bring a chair and an umbrella with you.

If I may two questions to clarify rumours.

1. Did you need a less than 3 months old padron?

2. Did you need photocopies of ALL 32 pages in your passports?

Very useful post.

If you haven't changed your address and it's still the same as your residency, you don't need a new padron.
If however you HAVE changed your address, get an updated padron.

You only need to photocopy the one page that shows your photo etc.

Normal passport photos are ok as well.

We did ours today and it was very easy. Not busy at all.

Is your new TIE card dated from the date issued or is the start date of your residency preserved. I ask as I wonder how you prove length of residency if the new card is dated when issued.
