Finding work in Quesada

Postby sandra ann » Sun Feb 02, 2014 7:36 pm

Hi All

We are hoping to make the permanent move in the next few years, I have read lots of topics on the forum on the difficulty in finding work , my husband has had his own business in the UK as a small builder and maintenance man ,and at present works for a national house builder as a project manager , is there a demand for an expericenced builder in Quesada or even odd job man? for us if we could secure work then the move could come sooner.

Thanks, for any thoughts on this

Sandra

there is very little work about at the moment, and what work there is, you have to price for very competitively to win it as so many are looking for work.

My advice to you is to stay put rather than come and join the struggle

I think they are wise words! For those who have a job in the UK, if you have the choice stay there. Things may get better over time but for now it seems pretty hard in Spain, for the locals even, to find well paid work or any decent work, let alone foreigners.

By the sound of it, Sandra ann, your husband has good skills and being a Project Manager he could no doubt have continuous employment in the UK. Also going by way the UK economy is picking up, there should always be work for experienced builders and maintenance men (try getting one in the UK and see how long they take to get round to doing a job or even not turning up to do a quote because they are soooo busy!! -- sorry sore point at the moment..LOL !!!). Being used to the rates of pay in the UK, I think he would have a shock about the rates paid for similar work in Spain.

Thanks Both for your reply and honesty on this point , it seems the best way is to continue here in the UK and holiday as much as we can in Quesada until we are in a position to retire and make the permanent move, I will have to learn to be patient
