Hi cooking jobs over in Spain normally are working in a kitchen 40 degrees plus for very little reward and at your young age may not be what you expect so be warned, enjoy coking at home!!

There are often bar and cooking jobs available in the English bars in the general area and May is probably a time when many will be looking for additional help BUT unless you can afford to come to Spain and not have a job for weeks, months or even longer then dont just turn up and expect to be able to walk into a job. Most bars, cafes etc have a constant stream of people looking for jobs so it is very unlikely that you will be able to come out here and walk into any job, however qualified you are especially if you have little or no Spanish.
Working conditions are something to consider as well - few places will have air conditioning cover the kitchens and temperatures well over 40 in kitchens are common in June through end of August

Spain is not the Utopia everyone thinks it is.Spending your free time at the beach, having a good social life and living the dream just isn't a reality for those people who come here, who need to work, rent and who might have children to school.
Spain is a beautiful, vibrant country and if you are debt free, self sufficient and/or retired then come here and enjoy everything Spain has to offer.
If not stay in the Uk where you can earn a decent wage.

Hi cheflady,
That is all good advice from everyone above and probably not what you want to hear but better you find out now rather than later.
If you need to earn a living and you have a good job or good prospects/qualifications, as it sounds like you have, in the UK, then working in Spain if you manage to find a job could be quite disheartening with such low pay.
The general advice recently, with the low economy in Spain, appears to be to stay and earn money in the UK, have good holidays and possibly plan to retire in Spain when finances allow you not to have to find work.
It is a lovely place to be for those who do not need to work but even the Spanish people are finding it hard to find work in the present economy - It is much easier to find decent work in the UK.

Thank-you everybody who as took the time to reply to my post, i really appreciate it, and thank-you for been so honest. When we come out my husband will be retired and we will be cash buyers of a small abode so in some ways we are lucky enough not to have to work but i feel that i still have much to give but reading all the comments then maybe just look for a small part time job even if it is just dog walking for a couple of hours a day or volunteering to do something just to keep active. Once again thank-you

Hi
We have all new neighbours now because some of them wanted sorry needed to work and sadly sold up in uk but when work got short as it did they have had to sell up and go home with only enough money
To rent or buy a flat and they had better before they left the uk.
So we think if work comes your way well and good but don't go over thinking work is available to all.
We use our home which we have had for 15 years for holidays as we have not retired yet.
Don't be looking for the greener grass it's not always there good luck.
