One of four new houses in Dona Pepa broken into over last six months, Last being last Tuesday between 1pm and 3 pm same time as previous burglary next door. Best deterent a good dog , next alarm, next good active neighbors next decent burglar alarm next bars window locks etc . When yoyu leave to go out return for 5 or 10 mins or sit observing for 15 mins a deternt. Trust nobody you dont know. Be aware most burglarys occur in the daytime when house is empty shortly after owner has left house often seen leaving by burglars. Dont ignore alarms check them out you could be a victim Signed a victim and retirwed police officer 32 yrs in job. Best detterent when caught no perhaps I wont go into that sDavid

Further to my earlier message about current crimes. The best deterrents to burglars are 1. A proactive police force. 2. Nosey neighbors;3. Crime scene examinations here in spain its appears the police do not search for fingerprints or DNA evidence., I know this from personal experience. When we had a brea`k in blood was left at scene and clearly also fingerprints, this was pointed out to investigators to no avail Can I again stress the importance of being aware. Most burglars are active in daylight hours, very rarely at night when occupants are at home . Look after your neighbors. Dont ignore suspicious behaviour. The burglar will be watching as you leave your house unoccupied If not the burglar an accomplice who will then tip him off Burglaries only take a few minutes to commit. When you go out drive round the block and from a distance observe your house , look and listen. The best tool for a burglar is peoples lack of care, lack of interest and complacency Any crime prevention method are good no matter what. A burglar would rather attack an unprotected house that one with preventative measures If you see something you think is suspicious the mere fact that you have noted it is a warning to you . Act on it ring the police do something dont just make excuses in your mind to justify what you have seen. We must all look after each other , that doesnt always mean getting yourself in harm way. Care about others . You could be the next victim . We can beat the burglar we must make it more difficult for them Make it obvious to suspicious characters that you are watching them . I also think its about time that major builders in the area take an interest in crime prevention issues. Self policing works. It would be interesting to know what the detection rate is from police forces for burglary offences. When talking to neighbors I very rarely find a person who has not been a victim. Its an absolute scandle. But i rightly or wrongly get the impression that NOBODY cares enough to play an active part in getting rid of this menace or reduce it to minimal The people who commit these crimes are scum, cowards and evil. We need to stop them having a free range.Burglaries not only affect the owners of the houses they attack but also surrounding neighbors. Please be like me and my wife PRO ACTIVE. We can make life uncomfortable for these undesireables that are a threat to our life styles David & Wendy

.. all good advice... but how many go to the Neighbourhood watch meetings?... how many are members? it doesn´t cost anything.... Even putting up a Neighbourhood watch tile (it has a picture of a policeman on it... cost 5 euro) ) could deter criminals.
