Hopefully someone will attend and post some feedback for those of us unable to attend. I hope there is news on what is being done about it and not just reporting it is happening - we know that already!

There has been lows and highs on crime in the area over the years. The highs (particularly with burglary) always appears to coincide with new house building. These burglars target these areas relying on new home owners not being aware and clued up on what they should be doing to stay safe.
Before going out to buy all the new furniture, the security of the house should come first.
Builders don't care about building in home security and often don't even put grilles or even decent shutters on windows or doors. Most home security features are extras. It's surprising to see people moving in without grilles on windows or doors and some not even aware that they should change all locks.
The new builds in the area bring in the opportunist thieves and burglars and while they are there targeting these properties they also take advantage of scouting out lax security on other properties which, is why the general crime rate goes up in my opinion.
Here's a few tips that are worth circulating

Quite so Jan. Burglaries are on the rise wherever you live because the thieves know they will most likely get away with it. Insufficient deterrent in Spain or the U.K. even if caught. I had more in mind the muggings and huggers which anecdotally at least seem to be on the increase and wondered what effort is going into pursuing these culprits. There seem to be daily reports of someone being accosted in this way. That said I feel perfectly safe when out and about in Quesada although it is sensible to be vigilant and take sensible precautions wherever you are.

I have read a lot recently on this forum about hugger muggers with photos and car reg details being taken and comments about local police not appearing to take any action so I hope (as a hopefully soon-to-be new Quesada resident) that someone will raise this topic at the public meeting.

Hi I was ill and could not attend the crime meeting on Wednesday 27 March, which I so wanted to attend. Can anyone please help me and let me know the bullet points of what was said. Were there any tips on how to stay alert to the hugger muggers. Also any tips on house safety. I think I have all bases covered with the house. All new locks, new an entry system, new alarm, window and door grills, new shutters and new toughened glass windows and door. I have never given a key to any workmen and I keep the gates and door locked at all times, even if in the garden. If any one can think of anything I have missed please let me know. I heard that burglars are crafty and can leave oranges and empty cans, etc outside a house as markers, and if these are not removed within a couple of days, then they assume the house is empty and target it. I always remove any such items as not only unsightly, but as I say could be a marker for burglars. Anyone else heard of this. They will always think of new ways to target. As someone said hopefully safer here than in the UK. Any tips from Wednesdays meeting would be gratefully received. Thank you.
