You can withdraw around €230 cash each month for free. Pay for everything you can on their debit card and you may not need much more.

Are you aware that Caixa and Bankia are now one bank with Caixa taking the lead?, you may well find the charges will change now.

Of course I am aware...and anything MIGHT happen.. just saying that so far it has been free...
I could worry about it, I could worry about Covid-19, I could worry about an asteroid hit, but today, I will choose not to worry.... I have free banking.

It depends on what account you have with Caixa, we have a Seniors account, and have our state pensions paid in, and we do not incur charges.

is that an Irish or English state pension? Do you have to be a resident to reserve it or not? If you are English then what about Brexit?

I thought transferwise might be my saviour, but on checking how that account works, it too has charges that mount up every month. Just as one example, withdrawing cash of £600 a month, incurs minimal charges of at least £8, more if you withdraw cash from the wrong places.
So, Unless anyone can tell us any different to save us, being charged is a no option way forward.
Daz, I think it is a question of mixing and matching, Transferwise does everything for me except, as you point out, withdrawals at atm, I use my Santander card for fee free withdrawals, or I did when I could last get to Spain, who knows, this may have changed now, at other atm's my Starling card was fee free.

Hi Willow and Mondo, are you resident in Spain as the increase in charges seems to be for non-resident account holders? Last October my Caixa Bank
charges changed from €12 per quarter to €24 per quarter then on 1st April
Went up to €35 per quarter. I have opened a wise account and have had all my
Direct debits changed over to them. As soon as I can travel to Spain I will be
Closing my Caixa account. I will then pay as much as I can on the Wise debit card to reduce the amount of cash withdrawals.

We are resident in Spain so that will probably make a difference...
Seems a lot though...

I changed from Sabadell to CaixaBank last October because they charged me a fee even though my pension was going into my account. When I queried this they said that the transfer did not state pension would you believe and they would not correct the problem. They lost more than my current account. When I applied for an account with CaixaBank they said that because I am a resident as long as there is a minimum of 300 euros going in each month and a couple of direct debits there would be no charges. As somebody has already said the charges are for none residents who want to operate a dormant account.
