Had similar problem with Caixa Bank recently. I have a joint account with my wife. Until recently I have been doing all the online banking through my individual access to this joint account. When it came to updating my wife’s passport details it transpired that this could only be done online by my wife having direct access to the account, i.e. her own username and password. In other words you cannot update data on behalf of someone else even with a joint account. We had to visit bank on several occasions before my wife could get logged on. A real performance.

Same problem for us. Account blocked because our passports had expired. Didn't realise that you could update online - telephoned their HO where a very pleasant lady told me I needed to contact the local branch representative. Tried to call with no reply so emailed a couple of times; first he was on holiday and then he just didn't reply. Eventually had an email from one of the team in the Rojales branch telling me that it could be done on the website. By that time however, because the account was blocked they were automatically returning our regular money transfers, less an administrative fee of around 30%!, so we decided to travel over and try to sort it in person. Managed to get the account unblocked very simply, but still haven't heard back about the refund of the unjustified admin fees. Hope you get it sorted soon before you encounter the same problem.

Why bother with Spanish banks? Do what loads of us have done & open a Wise or similar account & ditch them.Lots of posts on here about it.

Had loads of problems with Caxia, took over two years to resolve, involving many phone calls, many emails, and numerous personal visits

I had to go into Caixta bank this morning ( before 11) because I could not get an appoint For 2 weeks!
It ended up with the (only ) man seeing the queue blocking my account. He said I had to make an appointment to sort it. He gave me an appointment tomorrow at 11
I have had enough now I am closing it.
