Cheapest travel insurance for over 80's

Cheapest travel insurance for over 80's

Postby KimmiRocks » Wed May 04, 2016 3:09 pm

Hello! I'be bought my lovely mum who's 87yrs of age flights to come away with us to Quesada in July but only just found out that the cheapest her travel insurance is going to cost us is £381.

I'm gutted as she she cant afford to pay that. In addition it'll mean that'll I'll lose the £200 I've paid for her flights.

Do you know of any company that would be cheaper?

Thanks.

If you haven't tried already try the compare websites but it won't be easy to get a decent price for over 80. If she has no existing medical conditions it may be a bit easier. You could also try Saga as well.It will no doubt be a case of getting a bit cheaper than you have been quoted so far but I would be surprised if you could get a 'cheap' cover for over 80.
I did a search on Google just now and searched for over 80''s travel insurance and lots of choices came up so it's worth trying a few.

Hi, my parents, one 76 other 81 both got annual holiday insurance with Staysure for £233, there are 15% off codes in the national newspaper also, feedback was that they were great to deal with on the phone , SAGA were quoting £360...........

My parents (85/82) had similar costs quoted. Just came over to see us armed with EHIC.
Decided that if to ill to fly home cancelling flight and rebooking was cheaper than insurance cost. I know it was our choice to take chance - others might not want to.

My 84 yr old Mum has a current account with Nationwide B.S. in the UK - they offer Free Travel Insurance to customers under 70 yrs old but for a premium of £50 per annum my Mum can also take advantage of this policy - previously to this to take her overseas was costing on average £36-40 p/w per each week long trip so this works out much cheaper. It's dependant upon whether you have any pre-exisisting conditions or require regular Meds

Another Insurance company I've used in the past for 84 yr old Mum is - PayingTooMuch.com - I think the policy was between £32-40 for a weeks cover

Hi there. I am younger than yr mum but have pre existing medical probs. I got travel insurance with Prudential. Declared all conditions and they covered all. Tried staysure saga etc and all more expensive. Also check small print by questioning rep a lot of insurers state you have to use EHIC card first b4 insurance. If yr mum hasnt got EHIC card and it near departure you can ring and they can post. Will even post to europe addresses
Good luck.

What is the longest period you can stay with the nationwide bs policy,?if you want to stay up to 60 or 90days on most annual policies they will charge you more,I think the standard allowance is only 30 days at a time, and if you have a claim the first thing they ask you for is proof of travel & the dates, airline etc,so make sure you check your policy.

Thanks for your replies guys.

We went with Insure and Go and it was £102 but does not cover existing conditions which is fine because as has been mentioned, she will have the E111.
